  • Some Trump critics have urged Chutkan to hold a hearing to assess the effect of the immunity ruling on the evidence Smith intends to present. That proceeding could feature witness testimony from key figures in the case.

Trump opponents hope this “mini-trial” would showcase Trump’s ties to the violence that unfolded on Jan. 6, 2021, and remind voters of the most chaotic day of Trump’s presidency, even if it doesn’t carry the same stakes as a jury trial.

IANAL but if this mini-trial doesn’t have the same stakes as an actual trial, Trump will just claim that, “they didn’t convict me so I’m innocent”. I’m not sure if this is the best gambit.

  • The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth. A leader who doesn’t respond with hostility and anger when presented with the facts. We deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us. They are an essential source of our strength.

    Damn right

  • Trewhella helped to rehabilitate his reputation through his 2013 self-published book, “The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates,” which uses a 16th-century Protestant doctrine to argue that government officials have a God-given right and duty to defy laws, policies or court opinions deemed “unjust or immoral” under “the law of God.”

He’s preached this doctrine to county Republican parties and local groups across the country, even to the National Sheriffs’ Association, a preeminent law enforcement organization.

He’s preaching to the police that they’re above the law. The fuck is wrong with him?

  • The government’s dishonest misinterpretation of the secularism principle leaves French Muslim athletes in a unique position: they are the only Muslims who cannot compete in these Olympics with their heads covered – in their own country.

This is bullshit and Islamophobic; France has really been slipping on its freedoms in the name of restricting Muslim women.

  • Older comments by Trump’s 2024 running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance (R), have recently resurfaced in which he said he found it strange “that we’ve tried to turn a very tragic moment, Simone Biles quitting the Olympic team, into this act of heroism.”

“And I think it reflects pretty poorly on our sort of therapeutic society, that we try to praise people not for moments of strength, not for moments of heroism, but for their weakest moments,” Vance continued.

No matter the issue, there’s always a JD Vance quote saying something awful about women.

  • Short of a major heart attack, Trump isn’t giving up one iota of power. Really helps to draw a contrast between the parties, where one guy is willing to step down and the other is prepared to crash the plane with us all in it.

  • This guy is an absolute crackpot who thinks lawmakers don’t need to be law-followers, and preached that to the fucking police!

There’s so many wild quotes in the article from this “far right thought leader”, but this had to be the dumbest:

In a brief interview, I asked Trewhella about his reputational shift over the decades. He responded: “Most people will always only care about three things in life: me, myself and I. … It’s only because of their mundane, self-absorbed lives that they would think someone like me is an extremist. That’s my answer.”

Trewhella did not respond to over a dozen attempts to set up a second interview. He did not answer written questions by email and refused a certified letter containing them.

I’m only considered extreme because you’re selfish.

  • State Rep. Justin Heap had 42.4% support to 35.9% for Richer when The Associated Press called the race Wednesday morning. Don Hiatt, a candidate who worked in information management technology, took 21.8%.

Richer is an outspoken defender of the swing state’s election process who forcefully pushed back against the unfounded voter fraud claims that spread after the 2020 and 2022 races.

Heap, a critic of Maricopa elections in years past, has dodged questions about whether the 2020 election was fraudulent. He was endorsed by many prominent Arizona Republicans who have refused to accept Joe Biden’s victory four years ago, including Kari Lake, who is running for the Senate this year after her failed 2022 campaign for governor.

Only the worst Republicans are winning. Hopefully a large turnout in November will decisively defeat all the Trumpiest candidates

  • Mitch McConnell blocked Obama from nominating Garland to the Supreme Court in March 2016 as “the voters should decide”. Then he fast tracked Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination in September 2020, despite being 6 months closer to an election than the last time he was in the exact same situation.

But please, tell me again how Democrats are politicizing the stolen court?

  • It might’ve been more effective if anyone has footage of Trump laughing from the last few decades. We’ve got tons of old clips of him perving on his daughter, but not a single chuckle. The man is incapable of humor, how fucking weird and sad.
