  • I would be surprised if he came back to the news to be honest. Why would you want to put yourself through constant scrutiny after all fo this? Especially given his age and how much he's earned. If I were him I would take early retirement

  • When I heard rumours it was him I was worried he would end up very unwell (or worse). The whole situation is just so sad for everyone involved. I hate how the media have so much control over people's lives

  • ["Carrie and Boris Johnson have announced the birth of their third child, a second son.

Carrie Johnson, in the caption of an Instagram post with a picture of her holding the newborn, joked: “Welcome to the world Frank Alfred Odysseus Johnson born 5th July at 9.15am. (Can you guess which name my husband chose?!)”

The former prime minister Boris Johnson is keen to be thought of as a scholar of the classics. In Greek mythology, Odysseus leaves behind his wife and child to seek adventure, encountering many other women along the way."](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jul/11/carrie-boris-johnson-announce-birth-baby-boy-frank?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other)

  • More folk than you'd think! We had an influx of Reddit folk recently (wasn't expecting them to be embraced as much as they have been, nice to see)

  • The main thing I was concerned about is then getting rid of the reverse chronological sorting and they've backtracked on that, so hopefully it won't be completely awful. It did just seem like a weird business memo that the staff were told to put on Tumblr rather than anything user-friendly. Just sounded way too corporate.

  • I actually like OneNote for work purposes. Everything is Microsoft so it works well for what I need it to do. Not sure I would use it outside that context though.

  • I like the idea and I know that's how some people are using Lemmy at the moment. I think it would need to be very easy to implement though for it to be truly viable.

I love the name 'earthlings'! Glad you're keeping the alienfolk on side just in case

  • So far it's been stressful. I have stupid deadlines this week and the person who would usually help left last week. Worked over the weekend and already know I'm having to work over my hours for the rest of the week to make sure I get everything done in time.

The worst part is that the main paper I'm killing myself writing is something that I know people won't read all of, but if I don't write it then the exec will be pissed off. Wish they realised just how much work goes into these things.

  • That's a good point. Plus they won't be as embedded in the new place as they won't have 10+ years of history on it. So moving becomes easier generally

  • Ah thanks for the headsup

  • Definitely with you there on Jane Austen. I like that ultimately everyone gets married and is happy (even if that's not my idea of a happy ending necessarily)

  • Ah I thought it was just me! Couldn't log in for a good couple of hours (which was good really as it made me do my work ha)

  • But news stories like this encourage people to take an active interest. I don't think anyone is suggesting the media are highlighting this out of the goodness of their hearts but that's the same for everything they publish.

  • Started using Duck Duck Go. Slightly horrifying just how much it picks up from what I thought weren't particularly intrusive apps

  • I like Oscar Wilde and puns.

  • Yeah there was some (surprising imo) pushback against the idea of having one community for both groups. Sounds like it's more bother than it's worth to set it up at the moment

  • It's great that you've recognised the burnout and are taking steps to look after yourself. You've done a great job on here, as can be seen by the community that's sprung up here.

Take all the time you need

  • It's so hidden I'm still trying to find it.

  • Why should we exclude neurodiverse people from a space when it's easy enough to make it accessible?
