  • Not until Gen Z gets old enough and numerous enough to start pushing workplaces to adopt Apple, and that's an even worse direction.

Elder millennial here. This was said of us, too. I remember main framers sometimes noting this direction and poking fun.

Yet here I am and the world keeps chugging along in similar ways.

  • I want to look at the pictures and respond, but the formatting of the links as “1”, etc. make it terribly difficult to tap on in my mobile client. I just keep collapsing your comment instead haha

I was able to tap on two of them. I agree that kind eyes help, no doubt. Kind eyes make most people more approachable, bearded or not. So what if we focus just on the beard itself? Is there anything intrinsic to the beard hygiene or perception that matters?

Based on the two pics I could get to, it seems like dramatic angles, beard balm, and lighting might be beard-specific differences between your groupings. Those factors all can significantly impact the beard vibes.

Way too much thought on this this morning. Thanks for hanging out with me on this one! :P

  • Perhaps your experience with “crazy big beards” is actually with unkempt, long beards.

My face friend is smooth AF and garners trust at the workplace. But ya gotta take care of it. Ya know — hygiene and shit.

  • That’s a good option on using the bang search.

Ultimately, I just don’t want the overhead of thinking which search engine to use based on quotas. Bang searches would be a little annoying, but less annoying than going to a different site altogether.

  • Apple user here. When I went from the X to the 14, I went full eSIM.

Primary is eSIM. Works fine. When I travel, I add a second eSIM to my phone from a cheap, local provider. When I’m done, I deactivate and delete the traveling eSIM.

Not once do I have to use a paperclip. It’s wonderful.

  • I’m a fan of the Apple TV because I’m in the ecosystem. Plex works just fine for me there. And I love that my Apple TVs don’t seem to rot out as fast as Android or Google TV boxes I’ve used in the past.

That being said, someone else mentioned the Onn box, and that thing seems to have pretty solid value. I’d start there, too, if I was trying something non-Apple.

  • I’ve been giving it a go, too. It does seem to be a bit better overall, with customized site priorities being the coolest part.

I think I could get on board for 5 bucks, but a tenskee a month is something I’ll look at twice whenever I take a critical look at the subscriptions.

  • I worked for a major (medical) company that would skip .0 releases, precisely to combat stigma and folks skipping it.

We did have one particularly bad release that we ended up telling folks to delay taking.

IMO, the real secret to most critical upgrades, and at the heart of skipping .0 releases, is to test in non-production, talk with super users and peers, and patch intentionally and quickly. If you have the resources.

  • I started the email thread with them on Friday. So far I’ve only received canned messages like they told the HA folks.

Guess I can sell that Hue hub after I move my Hue devices over to my HA/Zigbee config — what wasn’t broke and didn’t need fixing… will now finally be fixed and finished.

  • IMO, a search engine costing similar as a streaming service just feels expensive. Makes me want to see a cost breakdown.

I’m hopeful that this price reduction means they are reaching critical masses to make their product more cost effective. I like the idea of it a lot.

  • I’m a single-pager when it comes to home screens, so screen real estate is exclusive for me.

I found one interactive widget worth putting into a 2x2 stack: CardPointers. I can quickly update and review the best credit card to use at wherever I am, from my Home Screen. Nice.

If I wasn’t such a stickler on keeping a single Home Screen, I’d probably use a larger Reminders widget. (I like checking stuff off lists. :-)
