  • The sad thing is the concept wasn’t.

Selling NFTs with no physical existence is what is pointlessly stupid.

Before they came along i considered the idea of a blockchain linked video camera where metadata of footage gets written into the chain to combat fake news and misinformation.

The goal would be to create a proof and record of original footage, to which media publishers and people who share can link towards to verify authenticity/author.

If the media later gets manipulated or reframed you would be able to verify this by comparing to the original record.

It was never a finished idea but when i first read nft i thought this is the right direction.

And then capitalism started selling apes and what the actual disgusting money possessed fuck was that.

  • I am, that works really well actually and it even knows when the same file was moved.

But to add new files to that external library, which is in fact the only main library. We need to dig in immich file structure which at the very least enforces different directories per individual user and also uses those to store some forms of metadata.

We tried sharing a user in the beginning but the app did not seem to like that.

Now its not the biggest deal, just an annoyance. the fix i am currently thinking is to move the immich directory to somewhere hidden and us systemlinks to get all uploads centralized under a single directory for further processing.

  • Very subjective but there is literally only one for me and its Navidrome

The one obstacle is you have to know how to selfhost, but i know for proxmox servers there are single line commands that will install and run everything automatically

    • Free open source software.
    • Free from enshitification
    • You own the music and therefore you set the quality. (Supports flac)
    • works with different players on different devices (open streaming protocol)
    • no bandwidth when used local, and stays working at home even when there is no internet.

Why people pay monthly to then not even own music when you could use that same money to just buy music while having a better quality experience that cant be taken away is beyond me.

  • I am aware and actually use this but it appears too restrictive for our needs.

The structure we were already using cannot be recreated. Honestly i could live with the default. But my partner who is less into computers likes to make their own backups on external hard drives and uses shared network drives rather then the immich web viewer.

  • This does not help you but it makes me think of this:

I understand why it makes technical sense to do so but immich storing things in a database in general is more nuisance then practical.

We want those fotos accessible in our own file system where we have full control of what is what.

Immich job is to put the pictures from a phone to the server and also to display all pictures within a certain directory.

It does a good job at both. Having your own file structure is not a problem and it seem to even know and adapt if pics get moved around.

But we have to manually move the photos out of its own structure into our own every time we do a big upload.

Maybe i can set something up with syslinks so it all appears centralized as a big “upload” folder to be sorted.

  • No thank you i have to many problems of my own and i am to tired to talk about them for when they inevitably ask how mine is in return.

Friends are better in quality then quantity because people are complicated and it takes allot of work to establish good long term trustworthy relationships.

I can not talk to my real friends for multiple months. Then one of us makes contact and we treat eachother no different then the last time i saw them. Thats how i know they are real friends.

  • FYI: one of the real reasons these exist is because they make peeing in a hallway coridor much more descreet.

Just do your thing, ever so slightly lift the dress to take a step over the puddle and back to the party.

    Learned this from J. Drapper

  • Click file “Yup, looks like code all right”

I don’t really care about low quality code as long as its still the best tool for the job. I blindly trust that any malicious code in popular sofware would quickly be called out.

The more niche, the more likely I feel like first investigating what exactly it does before i download.

Realistically i would probably not be able to tell without consulting an llm though.

  • Now i really owe you a apology

Because i only now realize the second layer that “no pun in ten did” was the winning pun. Right?

Its still somewhat funny without that dept and i got caught on that.

I dont think op knew this themselves but i very much understand your point now. I recall an experience myself where i knew a joke well and then heared half of that joke. Yeah i get it now.

    Thanks for your pantience.

  • Are you an english speaker at home?

This grammar is very readable to me.

In the first sentence (title) they said they send poems for the goal of having a winner. The second sentence builds upon that.

I dont think this format is very unusual.

  • Let take another step in some direction.

In a far future from now the aliens arrive and they turn out to be (y)our god parents. everything we have know till now is just a natural growing up.

You know we fucked up many times over the course of history but every time we destroyed (y)ourself you eventually put us back together and ultimately learned. Our parents are proud, I am ready for what comes next!
