  • Super flexible biological clock - I dont get jetlag - at all. I can fly half way round the world non-stop and get off at the other end and just carry on with my day, go to sleep when its night time at my destination. I also find shift work really easy, as long as I get some sleep at some time before or after I'm good. I can also turn sleeping on/off as required. I should have had a job that required a lot of travel

  • This thread has almost 1400 replies, thats getting up there towards reddit levels of traffic. They are OK in the short term but the damage has been done and there is now a big viable alternative with decent amounts of traffic. I have noticed it is definitely quieter there

  • I cycle all the way, manual bike, cycle everywhere except when I have something impractical to carry by bike or the weather is really bad. I used to be able to do what you do on the way in - cycle the first 9 km into the train station, and train the rest of the way until they shut the line down for a year. Drove today because I had to pick up a load of ironing, an access panel and my bike itself after servicing. I do have a spare bike but it is really difficult to carry another bike on a bike

  • My experience has been great, even with the lemmy.world outages. A couple of my favourite niche communities are now coming to life and I now post more here now than I do on reddit. Of course there are still glitches and bugs and it is more confusing than reddit for new users, but all that will resolve itself over time. Reddit has had well over a decade to fine tune itself whereas the fediverse is only a couple of years old and has only really in the last couple of months seen a massive influx of new users that have tested its infrastructure to its limits and sometimes beyond

  • I upvote FAR more than I downvote. I upvote anything thats interesting, anything thats a worthwhile contribution, anything I agree with, or even some stuff I dont. I upvote any time someone is trying to learn

Only time I downvote is when somebody is either blatantly trolling or deeply disconnected from reality

  • I'm in New Zealand which has a reputation for being safe and tranquil (and it is.... in some parts). Japan lives up to it practically everywhere, even the big cities. And yes Japans issues pale in comparison to ours, just as our pale in comparison to places like the USA or South Africa
