  • I mean a statistic can be “real” and also not useful. A person can also be statistically illiterate. I’m not sure these realities validate their web traffic metrics as something that’s really measuring what’s important to twitter’s long term health.

Definitely does not blanket make all statistics useful.

  • I mean, didn’t we pretty much already know the theory of gravity was incomplete? Hence dark matter / dark energy.

Edit: ok I see the article is much about the competing theories. I guess that’s why I shouldn’t react to headlines…

  • I don’t really know. Ive always been just a lurker, not a poster, on Twitter and I honestly haven’t noticed any significant changes to my timeline. Their web traffic metrics are a data point but I just don’t know if they really tell us anything substantive.

  • Definitely helps that Hamas uses the Palestinian people as human shields launching rockets from schools and hospitals.

Just stop and consider the psyche that takes. You have to 1) be completely willing to sacrifice the most vulnerable of your own people and 2) admit that your enemy doesn’t want to kill those same people. Imagine how things may go if Israel attempted to use Jews as human shields against Hamas.

This isn’t the Palestinian people “resisting”, it’s their batshit “government” that would kill us all if they had their way, killing as many people as they can regardless of whether it actually helps the cause of their people.

There is no doubt the Israeli government has and continues to commit war crimes. But supporting or justifying Hamas is just insane.

  • This is great in theory. But I doubt many religious would accept the idea that you respect them as a person but don’t respect their religious ideas. It’s a big part of personal identity.

And it’s worth asking: if I don’t respect the ideas that shape your entire world view, what does it mean to respect you as a person? Just that you deserve fundamental human rights? That’s a kind of low bar.

  • It’s so weird how we look back on those things that were seen as inconveniences, driving to a physical store / rental time limits, as good things now.

It’ll be interesting to see if we find ways to kinda bridge those gaps.
