It's a very deliberate phrasing, since not everyone agrees that initialisms are not acronyms.

Personally I think that "ackhually that's an initialism not an acronym 🤓" is exactly the kind of ultimately irrelevant distinction that internet know-it-alls love to know and point out. I know because I used to be like that too when I was younger.

But often those distinctions are not universally acknowledged or useful in all contexts. Like how strawberries are not scientifically berries, but we still often group them as berries.

Nitpicking word definitions is pointless when the distinction being pointed out is not relevant for the conversation.

I agree in general, but to mention one potential benefit: DVD only supports SD resolutions, streaming services may have the same content in HD.

It seems to me that the Taiwanese are moving on. Why can't the mainland Chinese move on? Why do they let their former enemy still control themselves like this? Why do they let Taiwan hold this power over themselves? How can such a large, wealthy country of over a billion people be so obsessed with a small country of only twenty million?

Technically, it is a fine format. The main issue is that it hasn't been widely implemented in software which make use of images, and so you often need to convert it into other formats when you want to make use of it, which is a pain in the ass.
