Modern day "gaming" sucks, paying for content that was once earned through gameplay is NOT Rewarding nor Gaming, it's essentially Online Shopping. Fortnite is a Freemium Application which utilizes (In app purchase mechanics/ psychology) to lure in 'Payer$'. Particularly the Youth which are more impressionable.

Yup you are correct! If only Nintendo got the advertising right, the Wii U would of been a lot more successful despite it being under powered. At least it was innovative with great games, features and unique technology to match! Not to mention (Free) backwards compatibility. Same goes for the 3DS!
