  • I heard an authentic "putain de canard" from a parisian lady who was ascending from the metro and there was a bunch of pigeons on the stairs. Which when translated to my native finnish was "vitun ankat" (fucking ducks), which I thought at the time as being the funniest shit I've heard in french.

  • I used a Jolla when it was new. It was pretty decent, and in fact had many innovations. Apple brought gestures to their OS several years after. It was one of the first implementations of a phone UI implement on Wayland, and one of the first serious Linux non-Android phones. Might still be.

Unfortunately, being a pioneer does not always help. Application developers didn't get interested in it enough so it never really got any apps.

  • I posted an amused and positive comment on the orange site about this and in 2 minutes got a threat about me getting hanged in the near future. Tech bros be panicing.

  • Can somebody explain to me a thing about anti-feminism: as a 99.5% cishet standard regular manly man man, even from an extremely cold, selfish, objective, all-for-me approach I cannot understand what I stand to gain by this. What's the point?

  • I love how Peter F. Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga (2004) opens up with this. But also funny how the inventors of the tech were such douchebags that they casually used it to just be there when the first mission to Mars landed. But hey, at least they didn't have to do the return trip.

  • The relationship between actual 1930s nazis and the arab world was kind of complex for obvious geopolitical reasons, but Palestinians pretty much generally denounced nazis. Also back when it might've been good strategy not to.
