If that means making sure old content is still reachable in an "authoritative" way (eg.: being able to retain some sort of permaURL), I'm all for it and would wish you all the best luck.
Questioned yes, and for fair reason, but nothing technically or legally prevents it, also for good reason. Would you say for example that Jordan Lund has an automatic legal claim to the username "jordanlund" everywhere? How about Jordan B. Lund? Or Jordan S. Lund? Or Jörd Anlund? Don't they have just as much "right" to that username, even if it is in a different instance?
No such guarantees. Usernames are not "copyrighted" across instances for very good reasons, and there is no cross verification of origin other than what you voluntarily provide on your own profile sig.
Not just transferring communities, but also posting history (much of what makes a user's identity).
I'm starting to think that the best way to use Lemmy for posterity is actually the same way as using Reddit for posterity (assuming you'd want to do that): rather than submit your comments directly there, post them in your own blog or smth and just make your lemmy/reddit comments links to your home-comments.
Joining in to the general thanks to the administration for running this instance. I migrated here from vlemmy I think? I don't even remember it's been forever in internet years. But lemm.ee is (soon was) good to be in. Sending the best wishes to the team.
Where will I go? Dunno. I'm eyeing .zip but also looking for other alternatives. Might reinvigorate my fedia presence in the meantime.
A question: is if recommended to unsub from local communities before lemm.ee sundowns?
How are you guys getting all the hits from MSN exclusively? I've tried insistently and I get an assortment of El Confidencial, CNN, Sky News and then maybe some MSN. Heck, I'm getting Yahoo before MSN.
If you are going to vote, remember that that is only half of the work. The other half is having a guillotine sharpened and ready, to incentivize those who say to be an alternative to actually follow up on their word.
And that's why my "necessary life skill" cooking lifehack is to just know that if you cook something big enough, it'll last you enough portions for two or three days without that much extra cooking work. And you'll only have to clean the cooking pot half (or one third) of the time.
