  • You should be able to see all the reports against you here: https://lemmy.world/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=13046809

I observe two things about your comment.

    1. You have an unpopular opinion of JK Rowling. I want to build a welcoming community so I want to support people with unpopular opinions, like yours.
    2. The comment is written in a way that not only states your opinion but is aggressive towards the other users. In isolation this comment isn't too bad but in the context of your other comments there is a trend of agression that stirs up more aggression. I want to build a welcoming community so I want to avoid aggression towards users.

These two points are at odds. I originally removed your comment, you didn't like that, you sent me a DM, so I tried this approach.

If you were in my shoes, how would you resolve the conflict created by observations 1 & 2?

  • Mod here. This thread devolved and reports were flying around so now it's gone.

It was kicked off with the above comment. rainrain asked a question. If we assume the best intentions, it is a reasonable question but it could be interpreted as being hostile.

Leraje did a good job answering the question in a kind way.

In general, please approach opposing ideas with curiosity not hostility. We are all on the same team, we are all working together to build a better internet.

  • I try to write good documentation, but when introducing someone for the first time I try to talk them through the documentation. Turns out my documentation could always use some improvements and it helps them feel comfortable with the documentation so they can reference back to it more easily.

  • No, but upon closer inspection the right one is probably a more faded version of the left one.

    The middle is certainly different.

But they seem to do this in other colors, where they have two slightly different versions.

  • John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry was among the last in a series of events that led to the American Civil War.[230] Southern slaveowners, hearing initial reports that hundreds of abolitionists were involved, were relieved the effort was so small, but feared other abolitionists would emulate Brown and attempt to lead slave rebellions.[231] Future Confederate President Jefferson Davis feared "thousands of John Browns".[232] Therefore, the South reorganized the decrepit militia system. These militias, well-established by 1861, became a ready-made Confederate army, making the South better prepared for war.[233]

  • Or they are saying that there isn't likely to be much trade anyway with such high tariffs.

“Given that American goods are no longer marketable in China under the current tariff rates, if the US further raises tariffs on Chinese exports, China will disregard such measures,”

  • Thanks for double checking the math. The source I got the air travel emissions from says:

All calculations are for the carbon emissions per passenger on the flight (one-way).

These numbers jive with what I have seen elsewhere but I didn't check my sources too closely.

  • Interesting idea....

tl;dr it's probably more like 1-6 years of burgers.

    This says

That’s a total of 3.6-6.1 kg of CO2-equivalent per burger.

This says New York to London:

is equivalent to 587 kg CO2e

So round trip would be 1174kg.

    1174/6.1 = 192

    1174/3.6 = 326

So you need to not eat 192 - 326 burgers.

The first source says Americans eat 1-3 burgers a week, so you might need to skip 2-6 years of burgers to equal the same pollution as your air travel.

New York to Florida would be 1-3 years, roughly.

  • I'm a mod here. While it's not one of my favorites, it does follow the format pretty well. I try to use Rule 1 sparingly.

It's a bad look to shutdown critics. I think the votes and comments are doing a good job of bringing perspective to OP's opinion.
