  • Sounds like a good recipe for failure. Let’s block all instance we don’t like for whatever reason. Let’s fragment the fediverae till nobody uses it because it’s a mess of instances that don’t talk to each other for a slew of reason.

  • Why don’t we wait to see if they send out ads to other instances before we judge them for that behavior.

  • What we really want is for all the platforms such as Meta, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit and any other you can think of, to get out of their silos. Let the content flow and you choose what you subscribe to. Maybe it will be the Fediverse, or maybe something like Nostr, which I think is even better since it incorporates the concept of validating the author of anything. Hopefully, the Fediverse incorporates that concept of validating the author, even if only the clients do it.

  • Well, I have joined communities on other servers where I am the first to join. At that point, it shows up on my server and others on my server can also see it listed, but posts on my server to that group only get updated from the day I joined forward. That's what I meant.

  • I hope at some point you can join a community on another server and see all posts, not be restricted to what gets posted from now on. Federated is great, but some way to make it transparent would be cool.

  • Well first this is never going to happen so the whole issues is academic. I would argue that it would not push the power to those with $$. The current system does that beautifully. You want the system of voting as watered down and in the hands of as many people as possible for $$ to have the highest impact on the outcome.

  • What I find disgusting is not anybody’s expressed opinion on anything no matter how objectionable I may find it. What I do find disgusting is a political system that no longer works for the greater good of the society as a whole. The voting system is there to give the voting public the illusion that they hold the keys to change. Government and its servants for the lost part can disregard those votes. What matters is $$$ and how these $$$ can affect elections by a voting public that for the most part is uninformed and falls easily for simple slogans that the $$$ get repeated often enough till people believe them to represent the truth.

  • It's an academic exercise discussing the democratic system and how most voters are not looking at the long-term health of the country that they are leaving to their children or the children of others. I find nothing objectionable to Elon expressing his opinion, which by the way was very short and to the point. What's more concerning is how people get so riled up about these things and talking about Elon and how much they dislike him. The masses are being entertained and you are all falling for the bait.

  • Thanks!

I'm definitely seeing an increase in speed. I think at some point there will be a market for servers that users must pay to use. For the time being, I'm more than happy to contribute to a server that is open to all, but good speed needs to be there.

  • Welcome the circus. I read an interesting post that said Reddit has the bulk of the users for this type of social media, but the users who add value and post etc. are the ones you need. The users Lemmy needs to attract are not the crowd that lurks. It’s the crowd that posts and adds value. That is a much smaller group of users.

  • Just search for the URL of the community. It worked for me.
