  • I suspect all social networks will need to federate eventually. Just like aol had to let the internet in or fade into irrelevance. I hope it’s something more like nostr then the Fediverse but I see this as inevitable.

  • This can play out in other ways. Search platforms start indexing open platforms and more links start making reference to these platforms.

  • They were always going to win. It's their platform. They can do whatever they want. But... They lost my attention and paid subscription. I now only go to Reddit when I'm looking for something I can't find elsewhere. It used to be my favorite platform.

  • I don’t really care what happens to him as long as he never wins another election. What worries me is all the people that voted for his reelection and can’t see what a massive fraud he is.

  • Exactly what I’m looking for too. It does not need to be be on the site or system with the biggest user count.

  • Ah, interesting. I did not know that, but it makes sense.

  • Not sure about resource usage but a single instance for a given community mean a single point of failure.

  • I hope the fediverse succeeds. But it’ll need to do it on its own, not on the back of a dying Reddit.

  • Why is everything always converted into something that the west needs to fix?

  • It’s the same crowd and over time they will be identical. The power of moderation is the only thing that keeps nastiness in check.

  • For what it's worth, my usage has really dropped.

  • I have a Keyboard Maestro command to type out the clipboard instead of pasting it. Some developers just love exerting control over everything. I'm sure this one is done in the name of security, which is silly.

  • I agree. I dont get why people use things like discord or slack to discuss stuff especially with lots of users.

  • Without activepub integration, I just see threads as another Twitter. I don't think any of these walled gardens are very interesting, especially Twitter copies such as Mastodon or Threads. It's just another platform for the few to get their message out to the many. It's boring in almost all cases.

  • Every day I use Reddit less and move more of this sort of interaction over here. To the extent that I can find communities for my interests, I’m consistently dropping the use of Reddit. It may take some time but I’m no longer a Reddit fan boy.

  • This is a great idea. Instances will need eventually to agree to common storage areas, even if they dont all allow the same content on their instance. That savings would be huge in the long run.

  • They start sending adds out into the fediverse and I would be the fists to drop them. Common sense tells me you will only see adds if you use threads directly but who knows.

  • Already made an account to see that it was all about. So how big is too big? Who do we block after meta?
