  • Idk about the additive effects, but:

Fan noise especially is very "white" in the sense that it contains a lot of frequencies from low to high. That makes it ideal for overpowering (and subjectively swallowing) other noises (like other fans, speech, etc).

    Fan noise

Speech for comparison happens in a frequency band where fans are very strong

Running water is similar. When you try to listen to a conversation or a video with speech while washing your hands, you will have a hard time understanding anything. With other noises that are in different frequency bands or only use very small range of frequencies it wont have that effect even if the noise is much louder than the running water was.

Noise cancelling in the sense that one noise actually makes another noise disappear, doesnt really happen under non lab conditions. Its more of a drowning out effect where your ear/brain cant differentiate the two noises anymore.

Selective hearing can do a lot of work by processing the signals from your ear in your brain, but that isnt all powerful.

  • I think you mixed something up here. Nobody cares about the amount of power (Watt) an app uses, they care about the amount of energy (Wh).

If you take a look at your battery its got a Voltage (V) and a electric charge (mAh) value. If you multiply those you get energy capacity (Wh) but the Voltage isnt really important here as its always the same for most phones. In practice the mAh value is all that decides your batteries capacity (for normal phones at least).

So if your battery has 4000mAh capacity (when new...) and an app uses 400mAh then it has consumed 10% of a full battery charge. This all assumes that the phones measures things correctly of course but thats beside the point.

In practice showing mAh is the simplest way to figure out the energy usage of an app relative to your batteries energy capacity.

  • The goal for the last decade was 2%, this has been reached now as you can see. So basically NATO was like "We really need 2% plz if we have 2% everything will be fine" and then as soon as all countries reach 2% they go "We really need 5% plz if we have 5% everything will be fine"

What we need isnt really that much more money, its a better strategy for how we use that money. Nationalization of industry contractors and fixed price points for bulk produced items.
At the moment the military complex is driven by the "We can ask for as much as we want because they keep giving us money" strategy. That needs to change and many other things with it like documentation and repairability of equipment.

  • Its somewhat unavoidable with some things, i have to admit.

    Is it this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.canon.ic.cameraconnect
Im sure this can be reverse engineered relatively easily if it connects over WiFi, because you can just sniff all the traffic quite easily.

I hope you havent installed any firmware updates recently, because they will surely try to prevent people from doing so and actively work to break existing 3rd party apps or older official app versions.

Edit: Nvm i saw you managed to downgrade the app.

  • Yes but its still all the same category of politicians doing something unsafe once that other people are exposed to daily.

In the Japan case its a bit different, but its similar in the sense that at the PMs office the soil just grows some decorative plants that he doesnt have a lot of interaction with, while elsewhere it grows food that people will eat daily.

  • In my experience Android battery stats are largely worthless. I know for a fact that it produces complete nonsense quite often and shows high values for apps that are configured to force stop on exit and have no background permission.

I assume you have ublock running? Otherwise disabling background activity for it might help.

  • Well then the title is just misleading i guess. If you need an app for extra features, they will harvest your data anyways even without an account. Unless the app was working without internet access before. The mistake is buying a camera that requires an app that isnt using an open protocol and expecting Canon not to make use of their software lock in thumb screws. In a year they will want a monhtly subscription fee for you to use the app.
