  • I live in California and I don’t recall the maps being drawn that way. At one point the State mailed a draft of the new map and explained that it was redrawn in accordance with the change in population. Overall it seemed pretty fair.

  • Especially when it’s a website that requires an account but they want to use SMS-based or Google Authenticator style 2FA in 2025. “Magic links” are stupid as hell too if you’re not a moron and use a decent password manager — I have no clue what random email address I generated for you since I can’t trust any company not to sell off my PII.

How hard is it to implement FIDO2 then let valid users make requests from whatever IP address they want? IP-based blocking is pretty fucking stupid if you’re already doing secure account-based authorization.

Saying all this as a heavily privacy-conscious web developer. All my traffic looks “suspicious” because how dare I not want your shit hole website to put its grubby little hands all over my IP address.

  • Having worked at McDonald’s I imagine he’s one of the “no pickles, no onions, no lettuce, no tomatoes, add bacon, extra bacon, extra mayo” guys.

And no salt on the fries during rush when the fries are already fresh + multiple salt packets.

  • More propaganda from the dairy industry.

  • I wish you weren’t downvoted. It’s not one or the other. There can be terrible systemic problems with law enforcement and amazing people working in law enforcement at the same time.

Even if you take a US-centric view there is a huge variance in police work across the nation.

  • I just redirect to a redlib instance, it works 99% of the time.

  • In Iowa, USA:

    • The town of Buena Vista is pronounced “byoo-nuh vist-uh”
    • The town of Nevada is pronounced “neh-vade-uh”
  • Yeah I haven’t practiced/studied Japanese (on my own) since high school, oops.

  • There are probably thousands of different static website generators that can make a more beautiful website out of the box, for free.

  • Do people think Trump actually cares whether anyone approves of what he’s doing? It’s too little, too late. This is what happens when you vote for a fascist.

  • 日本語は僕の好きな言葉ですでも、いま中国語を勉強している。

  • I randomly went full vegan after eating a Costco frozen lasagna one night. At the time I was drinking heavily, eating very poorly and pretty stressed out but something about the nasty beef crumbles getting stuck between my teeth set me off.

It’s been nearly six years and I wouldn’t go back to eating meat for the world. I wasn’t really an animal person but after marrying my wife and becoming very attached to her two chihuahuas my heart breaks that people can’t be bothered to stop eating meat. Animals are innocent and what we do to them isn’t right.

  • First time in my life I’ve ever been called MAGA. Byyyyeee 👋

  • Right, I’m saying to roll your own server and host a similar community yourself. If your opinion is so popular then naturally users will flock to your server.

The catch here is that you’ll be forced to moderate it according to the local laws in which the server resides. It’s possible you’ll run into the same legal obstacles the mods here are forced to deal with. With a little empathy and understanding maybe you’ll understand why they are the way that they are.

  • I’m a big privacy nerd too but I still keep up with the news.

One thing I’ve noticed not using TikTok, etc. is that people will flat out tell me things that are objectively false: this goes for both liberals and conservatives. I block fake news and disinformation so many times links to those websites will just return DNS resolution errors.

The privacy stuff does get tiring sometimes. People try to link me to Google-owned platforms that I have blocked. I tunnel my end devices to a VPS in my country, then I use ECMP routing between three tunnels routing through different countries. Those three are access through yet another double-hop VPN with both hops in-country to lower suspicion of foreign-bound traffic from my VPS.

There are some tasks that are impossible to achieve without bypassing the VPN though.

In the end though, I feel my internet experience is extremely “clean” compared to others’. I don’t deal with ads, tracking, bad privacy laws, cookies, etc. Both my ISP and cellular company only see encrypted data and that’s it.

  • Depending on the application could you just mount a filesystem that supports encryption? Even if it’s just mounting a .tar file.

  • You’re not talking to me and I’m no MAGA supporter but I blocked you—too much crazy for me.
