  • Last time I used windows 10 on one of my computers an update somehow got stuck so I just turned off the computer and I was never able to get windows to boot again because of how broken the registry was. This was probably around 2019

  • Just turn it off right after it shuts down before the OS starts booting again. (Or just turn it off whenever, it's not like there's much chance of filesystem corruption these days. Although there is a chance of registry corruption if you're using windows and it's updating, which is honestly worse to fix)

  • The best thing is actually to buy a used phone that was really good a couple years ago. I bought a used Oneplus 9 for $200 last year and it's still perfectly usable and way more powerful than I've ever needed a phone to be. Also older phones are more likely to be supported by third party android distributions.

  • Sometimes this is true, but sometimes UI updates really are just bad. Euro Truck Simulator 2 redid its UI in 1.50 and it's so much harder to use. Everything used to just be convenient buttons and information on the main menu, now everything is in really confusing menus and even though it's been out for a few months now I still have so much trouble using it and it feels so good to go back to an older version with a good UI. (Also the new UI is just horrendously ugly because they made everything completely flat but that's just personal taste I guess)

  • I realized a while ago that there's nothing stopping me from writing rust like this

     rs

    ;println!("This is great")
    ;println!("I think everyone should write rust like this")
    ;println!("Probably works in most languages that use semicolons")
    ;

  • Hyprland is really nice and I really miss using it but I stopped after learning that one of the main developers is kind of a transphobic jerk and was mistreating people in the hyprland discord server

  • I don't get how people manage to spend so much time keeping arch running. I used it on my laptop for a few years and it just worked?? It was like the easiest to maintain distribution I've used other than immutable ones. The only real problems I ever had were accidentally interrupting pacman during a kernel update and not having a kernel, but that was always a like 2 minute fix

  • I feel like even though biden didn't perform well, trump just said way too many obvious lies. Like saying the nazi rally in charlottesville was just a lie made up by biden?? Despite there being photos of it???

  • Being born in the US is such a stupid requirement. Someone who immigrated here as a child in a relatively non-wealthy family would understand the average american so much better than the super wealthy politicians we have now

  • Silverblue is so good, everything works perfectly out of the box on my hardware (Framework 13 AMD). I was worried I was going to forget how to do anything because it was so easy so I had to make a second partition and install OpenBSD

  • I think the ideal solution would be like selecting skills in an rpg. You get some number of points, say 10, and you can give as many or as few to each candidate as you want. If there's only one candidate you want you give them all your points, otherwise, you can do essentially the same thing as rank choice and give some to every candidate but different amounts

  • So like for the people saying that the bear is so dangerous, has it occurred to them that "being with a bear in the woods" is just called being in the woods? Like that's where the bears are, just avoid going near them and you'll be fine, they're not going to like seek you out.

  • I think it was a security torx screw if I remember correctly so it makes sense he wouldn't necessarily have an appropriate bit, but it would have been so little effort to just order one or go to a store

  • I like how the "wiki" on their website is just a bunch of uneditable premade articles so pretty much the exact opposite of a real wiki (also the articles are terrible, the "introduction to linux" looks like a perfect way to make someone give up on evem trying linux)

  • I stopped watching when he got that one rare IBM workstation and sloppily dremeled in all the the screws to open it because he was too lazy to go to the store to buy a screwdriver. That was before I even heard about this and the stupid gun stuff. I know it's like a minor thing and he only damaged screws and sheet metal parts that could in theory be replaced with a medium amount of difficulty, but I just can't imagine intentionally damaging something very uncommon because you're too lazy to buy a screwdriver
