  • CB radios often had a "PA" switch that sent your microphone audio to a loudspeaker under the hood

We used to roll those back in the day. A friend gave my very drunk self a lift home one evening and I used it to give commentary to a group of revellers on the side of the road... who threw a beer bottle at us, and then chased the car which luckily didn't get stopped at the traffic light nearby.

    Good times.

  • But yet the normie doesn’t want to punish success 🤡

Always reminds me of this scene from Futurama

  • In Australia, they are also called guide dogs, for the same reason. And for the same other reason too.

Exactly the same, in fact, since our Guide Dogs was started by a bloke from the OG English crew back in the 50s. Not sure what blind people did before that, just kinda wandered around and hit things with sticks I guess.

  • When I woke up to the news, my first thought was "oh great, that's 24/7 news coverage for the next month at least. We're not going to stop hearing about this for years"

Might have underestimated things a bit.

Definitely wasn't expecting 25 years of what feels like constant coverage, infinite conspiracy theories, the invasion of multiple countries, and the death of literally tens (hundreds??) of thousands of people.

Also wasn't expecting just how much of an impact it had on security - and not just at airports. We work at the airport and access is such a major pain in the butt now, but even going to ports or train stations has this constant fear that a bloke carting a bag of tools is there to do some terrorism instead of the far more reasonable expectation that maybe they're here to do that job we requested. It's been a quarter of a decade ffs.

"We can't let the terrorists win" was the catch cry, but man they kicked our collective arses and are still doing so.

  • Tesla and unfulfilled promises.... Only slightly less an iconic duo than Tesla bad news and stock price going up.

  • Why did I start rambling? Oh yeah cuz it’s Reddit.

    🤔

  • It's not really left though, it's just sightly less right. More maintaining status quo instead of taking a big step right. Which I guess by comparison is left?

Our (Australia's) progress parties like The Greens actually lost a lot of seats.

I feel people just didn't want the Conservative party more so than wanted a progressive party. But I'll take it.

  • I'm not smart enough to be a nerd.

  • I'm pretty homo erectus 😎

  • Fair point about AI-generated comments. What's your take on how this affects online discussions? Are we losing genuine interactions or gaining new insights?

  • Like what?

Korea has a few (Hyundai, Kia / same, same) but the only Japanese options are [P]HEV or the Toyota BZ4X which is... ugly... if it didn't have a Toyota badge I don't think they'd sell any of them. Few old Leafs still hanging in there, but if you want to go more than 100k at a time that's them ruled out.

  • Can't speak for other countries, but in Australia BYD is smashing it.

They represent incredible value for money and it's not like we've got a local industry to protect - our conservative government made sure of that.

We're already the world's dumping ground for shit vehicles that don't meet emissions standards, so having a non-Elon Musk EV alternative is something people are grabbing with both hands. We bought a BYD Seal Performance for $70k AUD a little over a year ago. For that money you get an incredibly comfortable sedan that does 500k on a charge, costs about $1 per 100km to run, and does 0-100 in 3.8 seconds.

EU vehicles are crazy overpriced by comparison, and because they try and position Mercedes / BMW / VW as luxury brands here the servicing and repair costs are through the roof. Part availability also sucks, with everything being a 6+ week lead time. We've owned European vehicles on several occasions and never again.

  • I used to like Ubuntu LTS because it was just Debian that wasn't quite as out of date, but more recent installs seem to suggest that you only get all the patches if you subscribe to their paid service? Not sure what the fine print is on that.

This box was turned on, Nextcloud installed, and never touched since (side from apt updates).

  • Yo momma so ugly, when she bought a Tesla the stock price went up

... This is a hilarious reference to the fact TSLA is a meme stock that makes no goddamn sense.

  • Why the fuck does Aussie zone block so many instances? You guys okay out there?

I'm not entirely sure we're missing out on all that much with a few porn instances missing.

  • Nothing, cause I'd rather choose what to ignore on the fly rather than creating the same bubble I get stuck in on every other social media platform.
