  • A few years back Dana White said he was going to crack down on illegal UFC streams. Then one night at a press conference he announced, "You guys remember the guy I was talking about who was doing the illegal streams? WE GOT HIM. He apologized and promised he'll never do it again." These losers are completely out of touch.

  • "We've all been there. You want to make a large batch of cookies for friends or family, but your KitchenAid stand mixer stopped working. When your KitchenAid stand mixer stops working, it inevitably leads to frustration. This is a common problem. Fortunately, there is a solution. I'll show you a quick and easy way to fix your KitchenAid stand mixer when it stops working.

Believe it or not, the first KitchenAid stand mixer was made way back in 1918..."

  • I do a lot of face-to-face interaction at work, and I started getting tension headaches from the minor smiling and face control. When I notice I'm tensing my ears and scalp, I try to be mindful about relaxing them. If you're not experienced with mindful meditation, you might try a 5-minute "body scan" exercise to get familiar with targeted relaxation. You don't have to do the whole exercise every time, but it helps to learn what "relaxing your scalp" feels like.

My doctor also prescribed me diclofenac gel, which is a topical NSAID like Ibuprofen. It's usually prescribed for arthritis pain. I'm bald, so I can put it on the top and back of my head. It's completely changed my workday. I'm less exhausted at the end of the day. My scalp might be tightening but I can't feel it.

  • I'm not arguing that the drug schedules are legitimate. Clearly having weed and heroin in the same category is ludicrous. I'm arguing that the authors use of "controlled substances" is technically true but a little dramatic as modafinil is schedule IV. I've been prescribed both modafinil and Adderall, and I can say that modafinil does not act or feel like a stimulant, and it's not habit-forming.

  • I just want to note that they're referring to modafinil/Provigil as a controlled substance and a stimulant. It's technically a controlled substance, but it's Schedule IV (low priority, low chance of abuse) whereas Adderall is Schedule II. It's also not a stimulant, but some people would say it's better because it doesn't have the teeth-grindy, methy feeling that many stimulants do. Modafinil "promotes wakefulness" but doesn't prevent sleep. So you can imagine people taking it to stay awake for long hours working, but they won't be pacing around or talking rapidly like with some stimulants.

The medical unit was still irresponsible in prescribing meds without proper record-keeping and evaluation, but I wanted to clarify about modafinil specifically.

  • That's a great conversation starter! "Hey, isn't it interesting that talking about improving our working conditions is so offensive to the boss? Why do you think that is?"

If you're interested in learning how to form a union at work, you can pick any big union and contact them with questions. It might help if they're related to your field, but it's not a requirement. I worked with the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) and they were incredibly supportive. Organizing a union at work is the best decision I've ever made.

  • All of this would be valid if we were lacking the resources to support our current population, and if every person consumed an equal amount. Unfortunately, certain people (i.e. the mega-rich and more generally Americans) are consuming resources at an unfair and unsustainable rate. You're suggesting that scarcity is the natural result of immigration and population. In a vacuum that's reasonable, but in real life we have a small number of people sucking up exponentially more than the rest.
