i actually knew a woman back around 1994 who looked just like this and smoked those old Lucky Strike cigarettes that don't have a filter. i was a kid pushing grocery carts, and she was the irl large marge.

my grandmother used to do it. she'd call me, ask me about my day, and then ignore and interrupt me once i began to answer her question. there are few things i can think of that were less infuriating. god rest her soul, she was a wonderful woman otherwise, but i still can't shake that feeling of worthlessness i felt whenever she did that - and she never had any idea it mattered, because i'd never dare call out my own grandma.

i just realized what i thought was wrong.. i'm using old.lemmy.world, which apparently doesn't display it like you'd expect. oh well. old.lemmy has a ton of faults, but i still try to use it as much as possible over the other options. because i'm old, too.
