  • Try a less popular VPN server by your provider. Sometimes I have to use Uzbekistan to get Reddit and other sites to allow me on

  • Michigan, a swing state, is in the crosshairs as well. They already have frequent major outages in the Detroit metropolitan. I don't think this will help.

  • Tor. Anything short is freely giving your data away. If you're looking for something that isn't based on Gecko or Chromium there is the DuckDuckGo browser, which is WebKit. I can't attest to how good their privacy policy is though as I have no idea.

  • I used a Jelly pro for two years as a daily driver. Smaller than a credit card

  • With good reason too. None of them have faced any consequences yet, and supporters who did are pardoned

  • Permanently Deleted

  • Tor/Mullvad are the only acceptable options if you genuinely want the best for your privacy. Mullvad browser is a bit less of a hassle than Tor but not by much. If adamant about staying away from Gecko (Firefox) and Chromium browsers then WebKit forked browsers are sort of the last options.

At this point I'm beginning to look at going online as something that is inherently dangerous (for lack of a better word) and that needs to be done with care. There is no meaningful way to stay private anymore, and by connecting and interacting you are always painting a target on your back with long-lasting consequences that we can't imagine yet. It's not looking great right now, my dudes.

  • That was a great explanation, much appreciated thank you!

  • Thank you for telling me what the Republican leadership is doing.

    What are YOU doing?

  • It's not stopping the far-right, don't let it stop you!

https://runforsomething.net/ (American-centric site, but I think the resources and advice within are still useful)

  • Surely it's less work to maintain security patches for a few prior versions of windows than it is to indefinitely maintain backwards compatibility

  • The full Microsoft XP source code was leaked and is available for anyone on GitHub; not the same, I know, but it's atleast NT based. I've just always wondered why a community never formed to fork it

  • Look, folks, let me tell you something. You know, I've been saying this for a long time—long before anyone else. Russia, great people, great leaders, they’ve been fantastic. And Ukraine, you know, they were just not listening to the right advice, right? They should've just... given up like I said! But now we’re in a little... situation here, and let me be clear, folks, I know situations.

Now, I see this whole thing with Poland, and it's a bit of a mess. Poland—great country, by the way, I love Poland—so much history, such incredible pierogi, folks. But now they’re, uh, allegedly showing signs of aggression? Big mistake, Poland. You never mess with Russia when you’ve got people like me out there... you know, knowing how to do deals.

So listen, here’s what I think: Russia’s been very strong, okay? Tremendous, really. They’ve won, they’ve taken everything they wanted, and now they’re saying Poland’s a little... too aggressive. They don’t need this right now. And I agree with Russia! The Polish need to calm down, take a step back.

You know, they’ve been trying to act tough like they’re some kind of... superpower—but, let’s be honest, it’s not happening. No one talks about Poland like we do. Sad!

So, if I were in charge, we’d be doing so much better. I’d tell Poland to relax, take a breath, maybe work on some very strong business deals with Russia. It’s all about the deals, folks, it’s all about the deals. And if they don’t? Well, then, uh... I’m sure Russia would handle it, believe me.

And let me say this: Putin—great guy, fantastic, we’ve had a lot of talks, you wouldn’t believe it, so much great stuff—we don’t need to mess with him. Poland? They're not tough enough to deal with this. Just, everybody calm down, okay? Don’t make a huge mistake, Poland. Trust me, I know mistakes when I see ‘em.

    Big applause.

  • A solution is to use GrapheneOS, a privacy focused and security hardened android ROM. They support some very old phones (like some almost a decade old), and continue to support all google pixels going forward. With GrapheneOS you will continue to get security upgrades ported over for a lot longer, and the phone will run better than ever de-googled!

  • Hell yes that was an invigorating read! Those people following ICE agents around are HEROES. This also reminded me to get a megaphone.

  • Idk I kinda wanna try the grippy socks, but the rest of it sounds like a bit of a hassle tbh

  • Yeah it's called an RSS feed. Every podcast has an RSS link, and that's how your podcast app connects and gets all the episode information and the stream. Some apps may not have the podcast you're looking for in the search function (or maybe there's more than one, like an ad free stream), and you can manually add whatever podcast if you have the link.

Interestingly, YouTube channels and subreddits are also RSS feeds. There are apps that allow you to compile the links together, so all of your podcasts, YouTube subscriptions, subreddits, and many more things that you follow on the internet, could all be combined into one app/page, free of ads and other distractions and annoyances on the originating sites. I use the program FreshRSS for this exact purpose, and it's wonderful having everything I want to see combined on my home page.

  • I do appreciate him speed running his downfall for us. It's a few years overdue but I'll take it.

I'm so happy to get the slightest bit of good news lately. How awesome would it be if this unchecked rampant corruption and greed led to significant reforms for democracy and an era of consequences and litigation against the billionaires.

How awesome would it be if this was the collapse of capitalism in the utopia sense, as opposed to the 'end of civilization' sense. Maybe? :)

  • Hey man, I'm sorry you're feeling that way. I can absolutely relate to all of that. The way things are going in the world is certainly making things feel darker than ever.

If these are of any consolation I'd like to share them; they are a few realizations that I've come to over time, and that I try to bring myself back to when I start feeling those feelings:

    • I can't control the world. There are things in motion that I simply won't be able to affect, set that way long before I ever came along, and that ball will keep rolling long after I'm gone.
    • I'm not a failure for not becoming a millionaire, famous musician, successful executive; for not having the relationship I wanted by this point; for not owning a home yet; or whatever high standards I held my future self to. I know more than that person did, and that person, compared to me today, had a very naive outlook on how things will or ought to be.
    • You are up against the most advanced technologies we have ever created; the most conniving of villains; the worst pollutions; the greatest wage gap in human history; inflation is skyrocketing and unemployment is too; we are in a great recession; you have to date through apps, and we are more isolated than at any time in our history. You are not a failure for struggling against these pressures!
    • I'm going to die one day, but I'm here right now. The ride will end; I don't need to get off of it early, and I can experience things like awe and wonder while I'm here. And I can help and love people.

I am not a failure for these things. My only fault was ever thinking that I, the world, my life, should be so perfect; and even then, being wrong is expected of us. We are dreamers. Don't be so hard on yourself, you are doing so great.
