  • One point - those who were building computers before it was "plug the thing into the thing that's labelled for it and whose plug prevents your putting it in backwards or otherwise fucking up in any way; repeat" have a foundational knowledge of hardware that is irreplaceable.

When you actually know what the gizmos inside the shiny black (or RGB with a goofy dragon on it or whatever) box does, you can sniff out problems, come up with solutions, and think laterally in a way that is much more difficult for someone without that knowledge.

Don't take your old person skills for granted.

  • Ok I had to walk away and come back to this because this is horrifying.

You don't "have a tad bit of autism." You're excusing your own bad behaviour because you're anti-social and lazy, and implying that autistic people are bigots.

You claim to be a grown up, and you think "calm your tits" is a "fun way" to express something. In a workplace. To a woman. There is literally no excuse for this.

You are part of the problem, and your reaction is to claim autism and make excuses.

  • À lot of those pics were objectively ugly af babies. People seem to have no perspective on their own children, and it ruins one's eyebleach scrolling.

An "ugly" cat is still awwdorable. An ugly human is not.

  • The only way to change culture is by example. Stand up to this behaviour when you see it perpetrated against your coworkers, especially if you're male. Double especially if you're in a position of power.

If you run a company, don't overwork and abuse your employees, and make it safe for them to report these things (hint: this is not achieved by saying the words "this is a safe space"), then really deal with them.

Agree with the other commenter that unions are necessary, but you can't solve cultural problems with regulation alone. All workers should be represented for lots of reasons, and this is one of them, but to collectively be better we have to individually and collectively model decent behaviour.

  • Ok you got really defensive there, settle down.

I was not suggesting you were making light of catching covid. I was acknowledging and joining in your little joke.

I never claimed this is the only step I take towards not killing my grandparents. Nor that that's the only benefit I or the people around me get from my being vaccinated. I also wear a seatbelt and don't drive drunk, but stating that doesn't mean I'm claiming I am thus immune from car crashes.

Either you don't know what the word "disingenuous" means, or you're just being rude.

  • Disagree. It's easier to shoot and vfx a little green glowing screen than it is to operate a camera around, light for, and interact with an imaginary hologram that will get crammed in there later. Also cheaper. And faster.

  • I personally vaccinate because I love my grandparents and would like to avoid killing them.

(Not saying your love of having covid is less valid than my love of my grandparents, just offering another perspective for readers. Love is love ❤️)
