One of my friends throws a house party every year. He goes to a lot of effort. It’s close to home, only people I like are there, great food (there’s a spit, desserts), lots of drinking and dancing. It’s a really good note for bringing in the new year.
If it wasn’t for this party every year, I’d probably just stay home. I find NYE out overrated, all this pressure to have a great night, usually very crowded and $$. Did the city one year, never again.
One of the walking tracks near my place goes behind some quite nice houses, their backyards face onto the track and the fences are generally wire so no privacy from passers by. A lot of lights ahead, end up walking past what seemed like a heated doubles tennis match. Oh to have a tennis court in one’s backyard.
I attacked that holiday to-do list with gusto today. Got some of the painting jobs out of the way and cleaned up the many layers of dirt in my outdoor area. Thinking of hanging up some fairy lights out there for ambience.
While that is far too much crying for one person, and I hope it happens so little next year that you don’t need to record anymore, these really are fun statistics to have kept.
Oat milk sweetness isn’t all made the same, there’s unsweetened versions you might like more. I usually buy the barista varieties to have with coffee, sometimes over cereal, they’re not overly sweet. On its own is not nice.
I’m a cow milk drinker, but too much in a day makes my stomach upset, so I sub with oat when needed.
Have made holiday to-do list for jobs around the house. Feeling too hungover to make a start on anything today, so doing the list makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something.
It’s a pretty aspirational list and I feel tired just looking at it. If I knock off a couple of the harder tasks I’ll be happy. Especially the painting jobs, they have to get done. I haaate painting. Mass clean out of crap accumulating in closets needs to happen as well.
Biscoff trifle made. Just need to add the whipped cream on top which I’ll do just before serving. I hope it’s going to be a hit. The biscoff cream called for the whole tub of spread and it tasted pretty good on my sampling.
Garlic butter for garlic bread made. The local Italian supermarket was out of the long ciabatta rolls I wanted to use for this, so need to go back earlier tomorrow to secure. The worker said ciabatta man delivers the goods at 9am tomorrow.
Clean up time then I’m hitting the beers to celebrate no more work for 2024! I’ve got some spiced rum which I used in the trifle, l’ll be sampling on its own tonight. Don’t think I’ve ever had it.
I’m making a biscoff trifle for friend Christmas on the weekend and just realised I have no trifle dish. And big trifle dishes are hard to track down at this time of year apparently. I think I found one in stock at the local Salt & Pepper store, half price as well. But does this dish have any other uses or only for trifle? Sounds like a kitchen cupboard clogger.
Happy new year all! I’m a happy drunk tonight, the best kind.
