  • A place I worked had a noodle machine made in Japan. The manufacturer had us send noodles to them from our shop in the US to ensure the machine was working properly and that our noodles were good, I had never heard of any other sort of company doing that. Where I work now has top quality machinery and they are mostly made in Japan.

  • Also from the US west, I've seen a bunch of hot vending machines! In several hospitals and schools in different states, a few gas stations. They will have coffee, tea or cocoa selections, a cup pops out and gets filled with fresh brewed coffee. They were usually around 1.50 to 2 dollars a cup, maybe more expensive now though.

  • Same, they must not have rolled it out to everyone, I have firefox/ublock origin on PC and android and have yet to see an ad on youtube, and the quality and speed of loading seem to be fine.

I doubt they would ever do this, but I wonder if they have some metric about the user's likeliness of clicking ads, and prevent more 'advertisable' users from blocking the ads but let some keep blocking them because it wouldn't make as much of a difference, or they would just leave youtube. If my adblock stopped working I would stop using youtube, without a doubt. I am allergic to ads.

  • Where does someone take offense to the joke? It points out the pay gap unexpectedly, comedy has been used to point out inequality for centuries. They didn't say they should be paid less, maybe employers could be offended for the generalization that they pay women less lol.

  • Yes it was different coverage. I saw dozens of people beating police and breaking open windows, doors, barricades, while chanting hang mike pence and similar slogans, all live in 1080p

  • Stainless steel can be woven into a net that would break the fall, I don't know if that's how it works but it would be possible.

I just read a guardian article about it, it's actually kind of fucked up:

The nets are meant to deter people from jumping and to curb the death rate of those who still attempt to jump, though they will likely be badly injured.

“It’s stainless-steel wire rope netting, so it’s like jumping into a cheese grater,” Dennis Mulligan, the general manager of the bridge district, told the Associated Press. “It’s not soft. It’s not rubber. It doesn’t stretch. We want folks to know that if you come here, it will hurt if you jump.”

Notice it says CURB the death rate, which sounds like they anticipate some people will still die? Jesus ffs.

  • The police said they don't think it was connected, but that doesn't mean it wasn't politically motivated, it could be a separate person from other threats. Though after seeing the picture of him and reading about it you're probably right. This article does have more info about the situation, apparently he drove to Colorado to see his kids, and he has drug problems.

  • What is the lie? That's what the commenter said, CSP is Colorado State Patrol, Capitol Security Unit is a part of the police. edit: part of the police but they do refer to them as a security guard in the article

  • It is essentially the same, it would result in the deaths of thousands. Even the Nazis tried to relocate Jewish people and realized it wasn't feasible. The people advocating for relocation know this.

  • It's pretty incredible how Hamas managed to take over the Illuminati board of directors and now dictates all global affairs, persistant folks!

  • That's why I love my thriftiness! I have a gaming PC, not the nicest but it can run any modern games well enough at 1080p/60fps, it might be worth around 1000 but I've upgraded it slowly over years. I have no TV, I bike to work, I got my phone for 300 in 2019 and it still works great.

I looked into upgrading my phone recently, I can't even find a phone that has better hardware that I would want for a reasonable price, the only major improvement would be the camera, all other stats on mine are just as good or better than comparable new phones.

  • If it ain't an MRE and you are busy cooking you aren't gonna be ready when the commies kick down your bomb shelter door and take your guns! And also cooking is for women.

  • Incoming comments saying "it might be rough but that's war, they have to remove Hamas" anytime now

  • What kind of decent joke could a comedian tell that would encourage a person to shoot up a school or be a pedo? Jokes about marginalized groups help encourage othering of that group and normalizes bigotry. I'm not saying a person can't joke about anything they want, but in a political climate where people are making historic pushes to persecute trans people I think it is a pretty massive dick move to fan the flames.

  • Maybe because trans people are already in fear for their safety in much of the world? It's popular for even elected conservative politicians in the US to call them mentally ill. If your identity and right to live were a fun topic for a popular comedian with a huge following, do you think you might get irked by that? School shootings can affect anyone, those aren't about a marginalized group.

  • A lot of transphobes, white-supremacists, and similar ideologues would support eugenics for disabled people so that isn't a far off description. Whether comedians like him realize it or not, they are normalizing social darwinism essentially.

  • Is that actually average in the US? I own not a single thing worth more than $1000 and I do have a job. I'm not trying to make a point or anything, just interesting to think how much people have.
