  • The discussion was about whether or not it's immoral or hateful to say "Death to the IDF". You said the guy was hateful. In light of an active genocide, I'm saying it is the moral position to take, to hope for military victory against the IDF. All the details are for the purpose of elucidating this point. Even still, "Death to the IDF" means the organization, it doesn't have to mean killing anyone. Though that's unlikely.

The "real issues"? What are the real issues you are referring to that I am avoiding?

  • You haven't answered it though, I am actually asking, why do you assume bad faith? One of my goals in life in general is to understand different viewpoints. But I see now you deny there is a genocide ongoing, so of course any action would be wrong to you because you think this is just a typical war.

It's not a matter of perspective, there is endless footage, documentation, corpses to see, to prove the genocide, and no reputable scholar denies Israel is commiting genocide. If you believe this is all a matter of perspective then you are choosing to live in a false constructed reality.

  • You avoided my question, I would like to know your answer, not some idealist moralizing. I am saying my question isn't rhetorical because I want to know what you would suggest we do to stop a genocide that doesn't entail any violence at all. I am genuinely curious! I am Buddhist, I agree killing is wrong and don't even kill ants or flies.

Israel is commiting genocide against Palestine. They are shooting and bombing dozens of children and women every single day, while starving all of Gaza and letting them die of preventable illness. Tell me how many Israeli children have been killed in the war today? If a Palestinian is about to shoot a child whether in Israel or anywhere, someone would be justified in stopping them. But that is not the situation. Israel has pinned Gazans into a deathtrap with no food, water, and hardly any healthcare system remaining, now using 'aid' centers to further their indiscriminate murder.

If any killing at all is wrong, then you would suggest people sat by and watch the Nazis finish the holocaust, because it would have been wrong to fight back?

  • You aren't clever, trying to say we shouldn't kill Nazis in a war against Nazis.

This isn't rhetorical, tell me. If someone is about to shoot a child, and the only way we could stop them is through military action, what would you do?

  • I'm sure no one here wishes that anyone HAD to die. Most ethical systems throughout history have a moral justification for killing, if the death will prevent further killing of innocent people. If it's immoral to kill someone actively murdering children and about to murder more, are you saying it would be preferable to let the children be killed?

  • Who removed this? Death to the IDF is a call for defense, not a call for violence. Death to the IDF. The IDF is an organization. Death to that doesn't have to mean violence. If the Israeli government would disband the IDF that would be a death of the IDF.

But let me be clear, soldiers committing genocide should be stopped by all means possible. Death to the IDF and the soldiers enacting genocide.

  • True, free to die of preventable illness, starvation or exposure after being kicked out of the alley they were sleeping in for the 5th time in a month. No one is free under this economic system.

  • Soleimani was the commander of the Quds Force, a division of the Iranian military and high-ranking official but he wasn't the leader of Iran.

  • I don't think it will make a difference in the grand scheme, I don't downvote, of all the issues right now I don't really care about AI very much. But there is a literal material cost to each use of AI and by not using it I am not contributing to that use of energy.

  • I’m saying we should think of the millions of people who barely survive every fucking day because of inequality and classism.

Yeah, opponents of AI do, it's making that worse for everyone. Plenty of people can barely make ends meet and supplement that income with writing and art gigs. People that can afford better AI services for applying for jobs and writing resumes have an advantage. Companies that can afford the best AI will have an advantage over lower wealth companies. It's inevitable but we can at least try not to prop up the services that are furthering this.

  • Obviously many of us have it better in the US than most of the world, that doesn't mean we can't complain if it's actively getting worse and harder to live. I can't get enough work, I don't eat enough and struggle to afford rent, my family was homeless in the past. While it's better here and I'm not getting bombed like many people are, it doesn't mean people in the US aren't struggling too. I am sad at the class warfare aspect of AI more than anything, it is being used by the wealthy to increase their power and wealth further, and in my view by using their services we are aiding their goals, even if minimally.

  • Well yeah but it's funny to call me a neckbeard redditor when they're being an asshole for no reason

  • I don't disagree, tech continually makes work more efficient thus eliminating jobs, that's a natural trend that won't stop anytime soon. Sometimes the rollout can have avoidable harmful impacts though. Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin, said it was maybe a mistake because with the increased efficiency of cotton harvesting it actually increased slave-labor and the profit for slavers before slavery was abolished.

The solution to the issues arising from it is not banning new tech, but there are only so many things we can do right now to limit the ecological impact, one thing is limiting use of this tech until it can be done with less energy usage. It also right now primarily benefits state-aligned tech companies like OpenAI. I'm not opposed to the development of technology in general.

  • I don't think it was a prominent feature when I joined, AI imagery in general wasn't quite as popular or sophisticated at the time. And even if I disagree with that point, it's not a deal breaker and db0 is still far better than many other instances.

  • It's fine if people like it, it just gives me a gross and uncomfortable feeling when I see it and makes me sad that one of the first careers killed by AI could be illustrators.

  • Lol you're the one instigating, you could have said nothing

  • Well it looks like a majority here agree with my fuckin sucky opinion so that's cool at least

  • Do you have the same concern for the thousands of children being held indefinitely in prisons by Israel? Why don't those hostages deserve release?
