  • I got snipped in my 30s before having any kids. I have numerous physical and mental issues that I didn't really care to pass down. Before I was married, I did date a couple women in my past who did have kids, so I'm not opposed to that side of it. At this point, in my mid 40s, adopting seems fairly unlikely.

I don't worry about or miss anything specifically. We have plenty of nieces and nephews (and now some great- ones on my side since my younger stepsister and her son had kids quite young) that I can spoil.

I do somewhat worry about setting up proper care for us as we get older, particularly my wife who will almost certainly outlive me by a bigger margin, but having kids wouldn't guarantee that or anything anyway, particularly with the ratrace that is the current Japanese job market and culture.

  • When I first moved to Japan and was shopping at a supermarket, I noticed they sell yakisobapan. so grilled noodles in bred. I guess as a kid I would use my garlic bread to make a little sandwich with spaghetti so I kinda get it, but still.

  • It's not super popular except in like one particular region. It was just the only thing the bar I was at was making a couple of times (they kinda rotated dishes) so I gave it a try.

  • My ICQ number; various employee numbers and alarm codes long since changed from previous jobs; procedures and rules from those jobs; all kinds of cheat codes from games that I no longer play or own; various old computer protocols, port names/numbers, etc. that no longer matter; and I'm sure more stuff (and some other stuff that, living in Japan, isn't relevant to anyone here).

  • Shitty japanese government and some private apps only work on windows (some to a limited degree on smartphones and Mac). Sure, I could (at least theoretically) run a windows vm for that as someone helpfully mentioned before, but that kinda defeats the purpose (and isn't really great for less technical folks).

I imagine some other gov/biz apps also have the same issue.

  • I speak English and japanese on a daily basis and don't think I could ever confuse the two. The grammar and phonology are extremely different.

Even with German and french thrown in (neither of which I remember well enough to do more than travel with), I don't see this problem. Maybe closely-related language in the same family (I've. Italian and Spanish in the romance family)?

  • Yeah, the landscape has changed a lot. People can also share on other platforms, sometimes live, showing their trolling. Poe's law is also a thing. I first got online in the BBS days and have been around basically every since. I quit mainstream SNS years ago, but it even finds its way here.
