  • Does not work for me. I always give a wipe for safety and often the water doesn't get it all. I assume it's an ass-shape issue, possible because I had surgery when younger.

  • Braces (and almost anything that is indented) should always end at the same column they start lest I feel like I'm physically off-balance and uneasy. First paragraph should be indented because it's a paragraph and they're indented. Otherwise, I agree.

  • That really kinda shifts a problem. I can generally guess that at 10am whateverTime a business is going to be open or people are going to be awake to time my communications. This adds a step of having to look up ... I guess the current daylight hours and/or normal business hours first? Who would maintain such a database?

  • Aside from basic biological stuff, trust and consent. Consent is required. Trust no one you don't know extremely well and are in a committed relationship (especially as regards protection and contraception).

I wonder if educational videos exist on this. I assume so somewhere. As a dude in his 40s not having kids, I thought "maybe I should reach out to volunteer to help" but, at the same time, realize there are so many weirdos on the internet I would always say no in the same circumstance. Maybe if there are no educational vids, I could try to create something.

Raising kids is hard. Good on you for trying to do things properly. Best of luck!

  • I've drunk with some people who did voice acting of animes here in Japan. They generally work a lot and don't get compensated nearly well enough. Salaries here are generally lower than somewhere like the US, but people in entertainment and arts often have a rough time.

  • True. They also mention the person's rural upbringing and then moving to the city. That mirrors my experience and my hearing issues pre-date using noise canceling headphones. I always had a rough time anywhere there were lots of people and noise, but it just wasn't super common previously (I grew up in rural Ohio and have lived in some big US cities.followed by nearly a decade in Tokyo).

  • Did the boomboxes-next-to-heads and the walkmans of the '80s and discmans of the '90s not count? I think a lot of game boy users also used headhpones.

I actually didn't use them that much at all, but I still have trouble hearing with background noise. Noise-cancelling headphones have actually been an amazing thing in my life because (a) it helps overstimulation and anxiety and (b) it actually helps me hear someone talking to me because it filters out the other stuff. I suspect my problems are a combination of mostly-neurological (ADHD and probably (though not officially) ASD) and maybe impacted by loud concerts and general aging-related stuff. I can still hear really high-pitched sounds and the like whereas many of my peers around my age and younger can't as well, but it's all mud to me when there's a lot of sound.

  • I've gone through all the stages of grief and I don't live there. I honestly don't know why it does or even should bother me. I guess there is some part of me that hates injustice and has some nostalgia for an America, real or always imagined, that was trying to do its best for the free world (even though that was, in many cases, found to be objectively not true later).

If anything, it seems like they may finally get rid of some of the stuff that makes it difficult to impossible for US people living overseas to use certain retirement vehicles without committing tax fraud (PFICs; PFICs everywhere and I can't put income into my US tax-advantaged vehicles due to rules on that side), but potentially doing one thing that helps me does not do anything to assuage my revulsion and rage at the current situation.

  • When Epic first launched, they didn't have payment processors in a number of countries. Want to play that Epic exclusive game? Well too fucking bad because you can't buy it. That one frustrated me as someone who lives outside of some of the major countries. Also, the people behind it are absolute tools in my opinion and I'd rather not support them.
