  • Wow. I remember the way the right wing propaganda machine tried to spin that into a story of total cruelty. At the time, I assumed their version of events was bs, but never really looked into what the dem's were actually doing. Converting old motels into homes for homeless people is an absolute no-brainer.

  • It's ironic that you're lecturing "democrats" on worshipping the status quo while parroting the current right wing status quo propaganda. If you ignore what the media says, and instead look at actual votes (congress.gov) or watch congressional sessions on cspan, it should be very clear that a good amount of democrats tend to be the ones trying to govern, while the right wingers are constantly sabotaging everything they do in the name of corporate profit, then blaming dem's for the fallout from whatever shitty thing the right wingers did instead of what the dem's wanted.

Can't tell you how many times I've watched dems lay out thoroughly researched, thoughtful plans on policy, or thoroughly explain how the policies the far-right implemented are screwing working-class Americans, only to have some right winger passionately "rebut" their arguments with complete nonsense, get their 5 second media clips, then sit down and stare at their phones not paying attention until it's their time to talk again.

Everything they tell you dem's are doing, they're the ones doing it. And now they're telling you that what I'm saying is what OUR propaganda is telling us. It's all bullshit. I've been watching the behind the scenes stuff for almost 10 years. It's been this way the entire time. And btw, I started doing this because I used to consider myself a libertarian until I started noticing the lies. Particularly how the party of "individual freedom" fought so hard against same sex marriage (a freedom heteros have, that every INDIVIDUAL of legal age should have). I bought completely into the propaganda and didn't realize how far I was from understanding what was actually going on until I really started questioning everything. I hope you can muster the intellectual honesty to question things in a similar way.

  • But also, please use deodorant and stop being so rude to American visitors in paris. I get that a lot of us are shitty tourists, but some of us are just regular people who are there for work (and not paid as well as you'd think to be there for that work).

Edit: said France when I meant Paris cause I'm a stupid American ;)

  • I think that's likely all it was. But, I also think it's a little too convenient that Trump is done with Elon now that the dirty work has been done to line up manufactured support for their billionaire tax break bill. At risk of getting a little conspiratorial, it's possible Trumps team actually planned to use Elon to do all the worst damage so they could cut him loose, after the fact, then blame him for the worst of the fallout.

  • Bigger than that, I think Musk finally realized that Trump only holds up his end of deals as long as it's advantageous for him. The rest of us have known that for as long as we've known Trump, but hey, being a totally legit super genius has its downsides, right? Anyways, Trump promised him a buffet of corruption, then got cold feet when he saw musks appetite. Even more than that, they're two self-appointed kings of their own worlds, both with the emotional intelligence/maturity of a very traumatized teenager. With their levels of obvious insecurity, their arrangement was never going to work. I'm just glad their break up is as juicy as I thought it would be. :)

  • I was about to start playing runescape classic before it got bought out. I played it as a kid and have friends that have stuck with it since they were kids. Friends told me to hold off because this new company is raising the subscription price. Seems like another golden parachute scheme for some scumbag ceo is underway..

  • I think you're completely right, and I also think they're work-shopping ways to make their live service concept work. In other words, mature gamers wholly rejected live service money grab games as a concept, and the corporations have decided that instead of accepting that and moving on, they're going to try to jam as many slightly tweaked iterations down our throats as they can until something sticks. IMO, this is the product of companies being run by golden parachute hopping capitalist predators.

  • That's kinda what I was saying.. lol. They've been really focused on indoctrinating young men for decades. They know they're going to lose a certain amount of them, because their policies are deeply unpopular, so they're banking on being able to get enough people while they're young, then keep the wool pulled over their eyes.

  • This. They've been honing their propaganda aimed at the youth for a couple decades now. It got me when I was 18 and, tbh, I don't know if I would've broken out of it if I wasn't gay. The "don't tread on me" part of the propanda was really what sucked me in, then I saw how hard they fought against people like me having the same rights as them and realized they were full of shit. Young people today are going through the same thing, but with even more sophisticated propaganda to initially hook them.

  • This will be the legacy of the boomers. They lucked into massive wealth, closed the door behind them, and made sure we had to pry the reigns of societal control from their cold, dead hands. I feel for all the boomers that never escaped poverty and will still be dragged through history with the greediest generation on record to date.

  • What you're complaining about are symptoms of the flaws in our societal systems. Neo-liberalism is primarily about unfettered individualism. A system that prioritizes individualism and competition will tend to breed tribalism, dogma, and contempt. What do you gain by complaining about the symptoms?

Imo, we all hate the current political paradigm. We can't fix rage and frustration by raging at the rage. Until we all move onto something better, the only thing we can do (as individuals) is educate ourselves enough to better engage in these conversations - with thoughtful arguments, patience, kindness, and verifiable information. Be the change you wish to see.

  • This is what I keep telling my family. They're all right wingers and the political conversations tend to end with "well I just don't like how much you let it affect you.." (because they can't refute any of my arguments with informed arguments of their own).

Like, no, I won't dig my head in the sand "for my own sanity". To check out, when politics affects every aspect of our lives, is insanity. Especially if you're a minority living in a pre-authoritarian oligarchy like the US.

  • We already have some very promising seeming sodium based batteries that are much more environmentally friendly. Afaik, the capital class hasn't been funding it as well as they should because it's unclear if the tech will ever reach the same level of energy density per dollar as the current stuff. In other words, I don't think the problem is the tech. The problem is the owners of the private sector energy companies are more interested in sustainable short term profit than what's best for society, long term.

  • Good. Glad you actually voted. A lot of people parroting the ideology you're parroting didn't vote, thus implicitly voting for Trump. The dems lost because of a number of strategic failings but, I agree, not outright condemning the genocide in Gaza was one of them. We can blame the DNC for that, and blame the abstainers for not putting up a fight against fascism at the same time.

If that's your take-away from the points I raised, then I don't know what to tell you.
