  • It'll go like the ancient Roman empire and everything else preceding it; so slowly that it won't be noticed until an invading status quo steps in an brushes it aside (not necessarily by force).

Like ancient civilizations; no one will realize it had passed until several centuries later when people try to understand what it was like back then.

  • I feel like the most galling thing about xtianity is that you can be the most violent, murderous, racist, homophobic pos forever and, per doctrine, you'll still be welcomed into heaven no matter what so long as you believe that the invisible sky friend exists.

  • Tesla is a driving force for both the automotive industry electrifying and worsening worker rights, safety, pay, and labor practices.

Only the bougie and the rich focus on the first part even though the second part has much bigger consequences for humanity.

  • I always thought that arch was more difficult to get started w due to my experience with it from 2003/2004; it was MUCH more difficult to install and use than red hat or Debian at the time because both only required an installation cd and the ability to click on "ok"

It's nice to know it's gotten better, but I'm an old fart now and you'll have to pry Debian out of my cold dead hands before I'll consider anything else. Lol

  • the knee jerk policies from multiple government entities about how china is gaining technological & economic leverage forced multiple chinese companies either respond or lose access to the american market and this came at a time when communications for employment offers from recruiters and companies have slowed to less than a trickle.

i suspect that the reduction to a trickle is a result of a blacklisting from a very well connected silicon valley firm since i'm in a super lucrative field w very high unemployment rates; but still get very little attention and i'm usually MUCH more successful w non-western firms, especially lately.

  • Ah. Well if I’m not mistaken Lemmy is mostly Android / FOSS biased so I’m not surprised some people might have the “Apple bad” mindset. Honestly why do people care what products other people use? I read a comment the other day about an Android user despairing that some feature Google is implementing (don’t remember which) might make some Android users jump ship to Apple… Ok who cares? Why so much emotional investment in something so trivial? It sounds just as crazy when you flip it, “Oh no some of my Apple friends are switching to Android or PC” …. A phone is an everyday appliance. Do you care what brand your neighbor’s kitchen appliances are? That’s how you should feel about phones IMHO.

iphones are status symbols so they get to be ascribed w the same emotional irrationality that other status symbols get like cars and clothes.

  • and a hour later and a rabbit hole later you discover your shithole country has banned certain brands for no actual articulable reason. Just some vague “Chinese spyware!” To which my question is always, even if that’s true, which I doubt, isn’t the bootloader unlocked? I’ll just install some other rom. “NOPE, CHINA SPY WARE BALLOONS DONT YOU GET IT?!?”

I used to hate this this super annoying non sequitur too; but it's meant that I've been employable at a time when most wouldn't give me the time it day so I'm okay w it now. Lol
