  • @trashhalo I have the watch history disabled for years now. And the results for the home feed recommendations was more or less of content from the subscriptions I had, with a sprinkle of other content when scrolling down. Wasn't too bad, at least better than what can be seen when logged off. But overall I don't care if the home feed recommendations get disabled for me. Not worth trading off the watch history to Google. It's fine for me.

There is still recommendation on the video itself, for related content. Also you can discover other channels by searching or with third party sites sites (where it gets shared). There is plenty of opportunities to discover new content. I personally rely and use mostly the Subscriptions feed view with my 137 subscriptions.

    Edit: https://myaccount.google.com/u/0/yourdata/youtube

  • @soyagi I use YouTube mainly with Subscription (137) view anyway, with disabled history. I'm fine.

  • @soyagi For 1 Euros or Dollars, you can't be mad at it.

  • @abhibeckert I have those from Eneloop. They do not discharge that fast as the old generation of rechargeable batteries. Yes they do, but the rate is quiet slow.

  • @SubArcticTundra Also add XBox game controllers to the list. I have multiple pair of rechargeable batteries. It's way better than having integrated batteries like in the PS controllers. I can just swap the set out for a full set, right away. Doing this since Xbox 360.

  • @Cube6392 "Don't be sad it's over be happy it happened"

  • @fox RIP Bram! My heart goes to the family, this is hard time now.

2 days ago I just switched finally from Vim to NeoVim, the day he died (didn't know this at that time BTW).

  • @fulano Oh my, that's terrible! At least they should give another option to communicate!

  • @JohnCoomsumer Besides the mentioned Nvidia drivers, I use Steam. Steam isn't bad by any means, but I wish it was at least an Open Source GUI that uses it's proprietary backend service. This way we could have such a variety in Steam GUIs. Actually impressive that almost everything is Free and Libre software on my system!

  • @Greenpepper I actually appreciate how Musk ruined Twitter. I was never fan of that service anyway. That means alternatives have a chance to grow. :-) Thank you Elon.

  • @ReverseModule Looks like the growth comes mostly from Windows (-0.56%) users switching to Linux (+0.52%). MacOS (+0.05%) users mostly seem just to upgrade MacOS and are mostly unaffected by the overall numbers. Inside of the Windows numbers, Windows 10 (-1.56%) users switching to either Windows 11 (+0.92%) or choosing an alternative platform (-0.56%). Numbers do not add up perfectly, because these statistics are estimation based on asking randomly a fraction of the user base.

  • @Zamundaaa Flatpaks are not installed with sudo rights. That's a huge difference.

  • @slampisko Also with the next big update of SteamOS to 3.5 they will even integrate Nix package system officially! That means you can install packages in a persistent manner (not just Flatpaks).

  • @neurodivergentAF Go with EndeavourOS. I used Manjaro for 1.5 years and a little more. Just switched to EndeavourOS. I'm not listing here all the stuff that Manjaro did wrong, but rather point out a specific problem. Manjaro holding packages is a problem, if you ever use the AUR. Because the packages on the AUR normally expect the newest versions from Archlinux. So the mixture of hold back packages from Manjaro and the newest one from AUR can cause problems. And you can wait weeks before Manjaro updates the packages. And also I personally encountered 2 bugs with the pamac tool (which is recommended over pacman and handles the AUR as well), which one of them I reported and it got fixed.

I switched to EndeavourOS since half a year and don't have any of these AUR concerns. The distro maintainer aren't doing any obvious stupid stuff as well. It's closer to real Archlinux and overall feels great.

  • @PugJesus Do you use a program to automate the posting? In 1 month you already have over 900 threads created. Every few minutes a new one is created. I assume you just copy existing memes in an automated way and post them.

  • @shnizmuffin For those who know less/more, original name was General Image Manipulation Program, before it got renamed.

  • @donuts I recently had a short conversation with someone from mastodon.art. They denied the GIMP devs an account on their server, because GIMP is a slur word. And they made a public announcement of this fact. Looks like the moderation/administration people are assholes, if they act and communicate like that. This community is new to me and all I know is about this GIMP announcement and this new drama.
