  • I mean it's not really about as big of a persons foot though is it. It's just it's name, measurements are meant to portable and precise with a real definition. Not just about the size of someones foot who's foot? Your foot? My foot? Those are probably off by several inches. Plus conversions are huge pain in the imperial measurement system which can lead to huge issues.

e: your opinion on measurement systems lowers my trust in your other opinions

  • I mean it's not really like humans are good at math either, we are good at making abstractions and following linear rules but we are slow and fallible. Digital computation is just near absolute the best method for doing math. LLMs are decent abstraction and general problem solving tho. They are not as creative as people but they are still pretty good! It's a step on the right direction for true agi. Honestly even when we have agi I doubt they will ever beat raw cpus in computation speed.

  • I like it, it's good for desktop apps but I LOVEEEEEE nix, if there was a graphical box distro I think it would beat everything else out of the water. Full reproducible builds is not something to sneeze at

  • No but it's silly and whiny, people listen to weird complaints like this and form opinions without trying the operating system. People who frustrate them selves trying to do unnecessary super user work put a bad face on the system. There are definitely difficult parts to Linux but unless youre trying to do super obscure shit you really won't run in to issues. It's like someone trying to drive a car and screaming "the blinker isn't in the same spot as my last car, the gear shift is different then my last car why is it so bad? Hey Google why does my car look like shit after I spray painted it?" It's annoying and weird. Linux does have a cult but so does windows that's just as annoying it's just not here on lemmy

  • It's so funny, I'm not sure what youre trying to do in Linux but it sounds like you are using it wrong. If you're struggling to game and are not used to like just know Linux gaming support is low that's why you are running in to issues. If you are a programmer and running into issues I suggest you go back to college or invest in learning more fundamentals about the tools you are using. If you are just someone trying to use a computer to get on Google to check your bank account or look at memes I'm confused on to what issues you are running into

  • Look for some UI libraries. They provide functions and classes that you can call that will draw things to the screen. As for the executable part that varies per Language. If you want help dm me and maybe we can do a discord call!

  • What's the point of trying to filter the smoke anyway. The smoke is the part that gives you the feeling. If you put a full air filter on the front end of a cigarette and took a clean breath of air why the fuck would you buy cigarettes. I get a light filter makes it less harsh but jeez

  • Maybe, but it really isn't like other substances. It's much. Much easier to quit. I don't know if you have ever smoked nicotine or tried to quit that. But it was the hardest thing I believe I've ever done in my life. Id rather roll around in broken glass for 4-5 months. 2 years later and I still get cravings. I do not feel the same way after quiting caffeine. I was a little tired. Maybe a little irritable for a couple days. But it was nothing like the physical, all body encompassing cravings for nicotine.

  • It's pretty archeic with it's syntax. A lot of its features have come about through feature creep. I mean it does a good job but it's just hard to work with and pretty cobbled together. It's showing it's age. If you've worked with any large bash scripts you'd understand how much of a pain it can be
