Also, I didn’t have a septic tank either as a kid. I remember using outhouses at relatives houses and our shit (at my house) just went from a pipe to the creek.

It’s hard to imagine living like that nowadays, but I did once upon a time.

When I worked in one of the poorest places in the US, those people literally couldn’t afford to get quality food.

They had no refrigeration so they’d walk to the dollar general and get microwave tv dinners super cheap and heat them up at my store.

You take that cheap shit away and don’t provide alternatives and those people literally starve.

I’ve heard people say, “those people just need to get a job.” When I was in my 20s I tried very hard to employ them. (My uncle owned a chain of gas stations and, despite his issues, he cares about people and tries to help where he can in his way).

One story that stands out in my mind. Dude shows up with the application, gives a great interview. Apparently social services were going to cut him off if he didn’t get a job. He worked for less than a week, then drank a half a gallon chocolate milk to cause issues with his diabetes so he could leave without confrontation via ambulance.

When I got his paperwork, he could not read or write and was scribbling random gibberish. There’s no telling how much just went out the door because he didn’t know how to handle it.

I was so angry at the person who trained him because she didn’t say anything about this. She just coldly said, “he’s an idiot. He isn’t going to last.”

The world shits on people like him. He was denied his disability over and over again.

It always makes me feel better to just go. I seen Modest Mouse recently. It was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my life.

Your version is broken at the end though and ruins it.

This isn’t what anyone is celebrating.

They don’t think for a second that Musk will do anything positive.

What they’re hoping for is republicans to split somewhere near the middle, some in support of MAGAts and some in support of Musk, which could lead to more people voting for a democrat than a republican. Votes that would have gone toward a MAGAt will go to Musk. That is the prayer.

Well, I mean, if a person wants to ride a bike 40 miles for 4 1/2 hours to the nearest Walmart I’m sure they could.

About 4,500 people live here and most of them have cars or they’re stuck.

We have public transit but about 30 people use it. My neighbor said it’s a 2.5 hour ordeal to go to the post office when he could be there and back in 20 minutes in a car. He got old and lost his license.

No one is traveling on a bicycle or walking here. These roads are empty, there’s nothing there. I live in one of the most rural places in the country (United States).

It was seriously 20 miles straight with no houses, wide road, 25 mph. In residential areas there are still 25 mph speed limits.

On our 4 lane road, bicycles are not allowed, yet the speed limit was only 35-40.

Where there are sidewalks, the speed limit is 25 mph. If there are buildings, 25 mph.

Empty roads with nothing but fucking trees should not be 25 mph.

In all of my years driving on those roads, I don’t even think I’ve ever seen a bicycle. A couple of those tiny, slow motorcycles, maybe. I guess they call them scooters

Everywhere in my town was 25mph until about 10 years ago.

A local politician got a few speeding tickets and went nuts over it, now it varies from 25-60mph. Engineers were brought in to advise on safe limits.

Him getting those tickets was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It was so miserable driving so slow on big open roads. I could probably sit down and figure up an insane amount of time I’ve saved over the last decade (if I weren’t an idiot).

Hmmm. I’m down on all of that. Always miserable because of it too.

And one more for, “stuck it in the fridge I guess.”

Their golden age was long gone.

Man, my poor daughter.

This was her life. When her mom died she dealt with the guilt that followed her relief.

Having known her mom all of my life and seen everything she went through as a child, I wish some kind of ghost of Christmas past could take my daughter and show her so she can see that her mom wasn’t always like that. That at one time she was a little girl waiting on the day she could escape her own mom. At one point she was young and a lot like her.

I always figured they’d get it right when she grew up, but she never got that chance.

Haha, when we were kids I caught him doing his thing a few times. He did this odd thing like he was starting a fire with a stick.
