  • Well this is Bloomberg, and Western media like Bloomberg has been saying "the Russian economy is about to collapse!" for two years now. I'll believe when it's actually happening.

  • Same reason porn actors do anything, I'd guess. At some point, someone tried it, and that video sold well, so all the porn actors started copying that. Same reason why every other porn video is about stepsiblings and stepparents these days 😑

I would love to know who the originating actor is, though. I'm sure they said lots about why they did that.

Edit: okay I have a hypothesis. It's usually the receiving partner that makes the "it hurts" face. It's probably to appease the male audience, who craves validation that they have a big hog that is so big it hurts people.

  • open stuff scares people. plus with messengers, we're kind of bound to what our friends use. I've been slowly converting friends to Signal, and but people are very reluctant to change when the thing they have already works. Can't imagine how much friction I would hit with something like matrix.

  • you're absolutely right, i just like to take every chance I can to point out that our overlords are hypocrites and you shouldn't trust a single word that they say.

  • Happy new year! I just caught up on that drama. On the one hand, i get your point about categorization of posts and communities. It can be alienating to go to a community expecting one type of post and then seeing the conversation is in a totally different place. On the other hand, OneRedFox clearly puts a LOT of effort into keeping that specific subcommunity alive, and they did explain clearly that their environmentalism article was from a socialist publication, while yours was not. Snapping back with this sassy comment was also not a good look on your part.

Why is it reasonable for OneRedFox to delete your article but leave theirs up? I think it's pretty clear that OneRedFox is very plugged into articles and books from the global socialist community. As the sidebar says, c/socialism is: "A place for all leftist and labor news and discussion, as long as you’re nice about it. Non-socialists are welcome to come to learn, though it’s hard to get to in-depth discussions if the community is constantly fighting over the basics."

There is a subset of online socialists and leftists that are very plugged in like this, and for them, it can be very frustrating to talk to people that aren't as plugged in, because it can feel like you are constantly going over the basics with newbies when what you really crave is deep, meaningful discussion that challenges your existing views. I think OneRedFox is one of those people, and they view c/Socialism as a place for those kinds of discussions, separate from similar posts that might take place on communities like Environmentalism or Politics.

I don't know your exact political views, but I'm guessing you haven't spent a lot of time in recent years reading socialist publications or talking with socialists online. If that is the case, then I think that community simply isn't for you. Which is fine - not everyone has to be into every community on Beehaw. I'm not subbed to c/programming because i'm not a programmer, so i don't really care about the articles and I can't contribute meaningfully to the conversations. I'm subbed to c/socialism because I am curious about it and I am an anti-capitalist leftist for sure. But I don't spend a lot of time reading socialist publications or talking with socialists online, so I rarely comment there because I know I am out of my depth.

Anyway, I don't know if any of that helps reestablish your faith in Beehaw, but I wanted to give my two cents. I hope you are well!

  • pretty sure beehaw is defederated from .world for this exact reason.

  • it's a crime that this isn't the top comment

  • I'm generally given to trust Malwarebytes regarding cybersecurity, but they don't mention at all that E2E encryption is not the default messaging style on Telegram. That, plus the article being from 2021, makes me distrustful of that source.

Signal is still the only service I am aware of that does not store logs of user messages on servers. Messages only exist on the devices of individual users.

  • oh, they are aware. They just don't want to openly acknowledge it because they are pro-lobbyism, and that stance doesn't play well with their readers.

  • yes, using a smaller platform means forgoing some of the conveniences you are used to on a larger platform. but we all make do because we're here for the community, not the features.

  • Obviously, nobody looked at a game and thought “oh, well, that’s too woke, so I’m not going to buy it”. They didn’t buy it because it was a shit game with shitty microtransactions.

Except these people are out there, and we've known this since GamerGate happened over a decade ago. One of the top Steam curators is called "Sweet Baby Inc detected", and exists to identify games that are "too woke":

Clearly there are at least 468k losers out there that avoid specific games because "that’s too woke, so I’m not going to buy it".

  • Hey, just a quick tip, when posting videos on Lemmy, it's generally good to include the video length and the channel in the title, and then include a short summary in the post description. You are certainly not required to do any of this, but videos tend to get better responses here when people include those details.

  • Aren't the best at everything *without tools. We don't got many built-in tools.

  • country where half the population thinks that exposing yourself to more viruses with zero protection will make you healthier.

  • ::: spoiler spoiler yeah it felt like there could have been a season 2 that ended somewhere around the Jinx prison break at the end of EP4, and then you have season 3 open with the situation of Jinx seeking out Vi to help her find Vander. Though so much happens in the story AFTER that point that idk, maybe that would be too much to crunch in. But it would have been nice to spend a season in the situation where Caitlyn is mad about her mom's death and she's on the warpath, while she and Vi are slowly fighting more and more. Would have made it hit way harder when Cait realizes she's wrong and she and Vi reunite.

  • so so so so so well put. I want to say that I hope the studio goes on to do more than just LoL fanfic, but it really seems like Riot themselves were very integrated into the actual storytelling of Arcane. So really I guess I'm hoping that Christian Linke and Alex Yee leave Riot to go do something more bold, if it is them that wrote the really cool story pieces that were unfortunately left to wither in Arcan. And I'm hoping that Fortiche Production gets tons of new, great projects following Arcane. Blades in the Dark animated show when?

Edit: well it sounds like Linke and Fortiche were planning on doing more LoL related projects as of earlier this year, so I guess we're cursed with more really beautiful and well-produced fan fiction. I hate our neoliberal hellscape.

  • I don't know the details of the other 37 inmates. But knowing our justice system, I think this is a good thing?

  • RA sent me into a fever dream with Pokémon Pinball on the GBA, trying to get all of the achievements that counted for the "beaten" tick on my profile. Why did I do that? Why?

  • Exactly my point, and I'm glad you were here to argue it better than I could. Like yeah, in normal times I don't want Biden to flaunt what the Supreme Court says, even if they are conservative. But the GOP has stopped playing by the rules, and Trump is going to break so many rules and laws over his presidency that we will wonder what "legal" even means anymore. So who cares if Biden flaunts the Supreme Court in his final month?
