I ask you a simple question: Name the only nation that has already used a nuclear weapon in a war... twice.

The thing is: If you ask her out (in real life, not through some shitty app) and you are not super creepy or awkward about it you already have an advantage above 90% of the dudes who write weird messages to her... it's the date when you find out more about her

Ways that could escalate:

• Iran finishes a nuke (or get one from somewhere [or use some other form of WMD]) and the regime decides to go out with a bang
• China using the moment of distraction to try something funny with Taiwan
• A new wave of international terrorism after the regime falls

So, even if that doesn't escalate up to full on WWIII there is enough shit on the horizon to be worried

Well regarding plan9port, it is really, really easy to acquire... just clone the Github repo (https://github.com/9fans/plan9port), run ./INSTALL and everything else sorts itself out ;-)

Why ed? Well, it keeps my brain from rotting 😀 just half joking... i have noticed that whenever i use a somewhat more "user friendly" software my mind starts to wander off more easily and instead of being more focussed on the programming task i shortly after find myself doing... $THING instead of being productive. So, being the only jack-of-all-trades-computer-guy in a small-ish company i tend to chose the tools that work for me, even if they are a bit... anachronistic.

I think the best maintained version of Sam would be the one included in 9front (if you want some truely special experience) or if you want to stay (somewhat) in the realm of the sane you can use plan9port which also brings in many nice tools out of the Plan9 ecosystem.

I DO like to code via ED because the design and workflow of ED (or even better: Sam) makes folding unnecessary because you only put on the screen what is needed right at that moment. Want to see two functions 1000 lines apart? No problem, just print them right below each other on the screen.

Somehow i have the feeling that i will regret further participating in this conversation, but i feel somewhat masochistic today:

Any western nation is safer because no western nation is surrounded by countries that would happily do to the israelis what the israelis currently are doing to the palestinians. Yes, its unfair and brutal, but as a nation of a people that was selected for annihilation just about 90 years ago i personaly can understand that they are willing to commit every atrocity needed to ensure that nobody will attack them.

Do i LIKE it? Hell no! Would i like a better solution where everyone over there lives in peace? Absolutely! But i can UNDERSTAND why they acting the way they do.

I was there, even a couple years before that... and in reality not so much has changed.

What we now call "The Internet" is what BTX (in germany) was back then: A commercialised platform controlled by corporations. Trolling, hate, ragebait... all nothing new, just look at archived posts from the Usenet!

The cool thing is that we now can rebuild something that is more akin to the BBS networks of yesteryear, something like the Fido-net, something that is entirely owned by the people using it.

I agree, but I will add that they are also indoctrinated from a young age to hate or fear the Palestinians. I don’t really think the long history means as much other than an excuse to continue the indoctrination.

The same could be said for the other side... which is the reason i think this conflict is absolutely hopeless...

I care as much about the Palestinians as i care about the Israelis... from my personal point of view i have as much emotional investment in them as with any other people that kill eachother in other parts of the world, so not very much.
