  • Oh, they’ll be made an example* of - don’t you worry about that.

I hear there’s a good chance for an impromptu vacation to El Salvador for any of those administrators who can’t trace their full lineage back to the Mayflower.

  • Going old-school for this one, but I remembered absolutely loving the RPG Story Mode in Point Blank on the PSX.

I would sell a kidney (not necessarily mine), if it helped produce a PC/Steam remake with mouse compatibility (seeing as Light Gun games have basically gone the way of the dodo).

  • Honestly not surprised, catering to GamersTM honestly feels like a fool’s errand; there seems to be an ever growing divide between what the vocal minority demands to see, and what the silent majority of the market ends up consuming.

Catering to the former is like dancing on a knife’s edge, its only a matter of time before you fail to live up to their expectations - and that’s even if there’s enough of them to even be able to support a journalist’s career to begin with!

Catering to the mainstream segment will usually cause you to fall on the former’s bad-side anyway, as they unleash a torrent of vitriol and hate at the journalists for not focusing on whatever manufactured outrage is de jour at the moment (previously woke, now DEI).

  • It was usually said when referring to the PlayStation secondarily:

    • “I have a PlayStation at home, you should come over sometime!”
    • “I just bought Resident Evil 2 for the PSX, it’s really scary!”
  • I’m honestly surprised they haven’t jacked up the prices already! Partly because CapitalismTM — but also because I fully expect for big retailers like Walmart to have 30-90 day payment terms with vendors, and some of those invoices potentially being subject to these tariffs.

  • That’s fair, to be honest. The missus and I began alternating streaming services ~18 months ago as we tend to only watch one-to-three shows at a time, so most services ended up going unwatched for weeks at a time.

Anything new we catch and end up enjoying, manages to ‘find its way’ onto our home NAS for later rewatching. Looking back, this was actually the easiest cut to our household budget. Would highly recommend considering it!

  • I actually started on the first episode not too long ago (it auto-played after the Severance finale); but I was still digesting that ending and didn’t pay it too much attention.

I’ll give it another try in the near future - I just wrapped up Westworld and am just starting on Snowpiercer.

  • From my understanding, even though they both run Nvidia-designed ARM processors - there are enough differences between the two SOCs that a direct 1:1 translation is not possible for all titles, and those will need to go through an emulation layer.

Additionally, there are certain titles won’t be compatible due to hardware changes (Ring Fit Adventure for example, and probably all of the LABO stuff?).

  • Maybe it’s from huffing too much copium; but I think that Valve’s eventual Steam Deck successor will probably have mainstream console levels of appeal.

By that point in time, compatibility should be nigh-sorted (thanks to all the hard work currently happening), and users won’t need to interact with the Linux desktop mode at all. It would be completely transparent, and only enthusiasts and power-users would ever want interact with it.

The biggest thing going for the SteamOS platform is the immense library that it brings forward; no other console can compete with — even with full backwards compatibility (which even the Switch2 is struggling with).

  • Apple TV+ is currently the only streaming service I’m paying for (and only because it’s bundled in with my family’s Apple One subscription); but honestly their offerings are a tier above the slop on most other services.

Between Severance, The Silo, Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Shrinking and a bunch of others that escape me right now — it somewhat reminds me of the “good ol’ days of early Netflix exclusives” in terms of breadth and quality.

So with that said, I’m also a sucker for future/dystopia media in particular (living my rewatch of Westworld at the moment, half-way through S4); so I’ll definitely be checking this out.

  • Can’t believe someone actually downvoted you for being excited; I swear, heaven forbid you like something that others don’t.

I’m skeptical as to whether the open world aspect will add to (or detract from) the experience, but I’ll probably end up grabbing it few years down the line once my kid is old enough to appreciate it.
