Has there ever been a person elected president who has so convincingly lost their home district/state? Besides Trump 2016 and Trump 2024, that is.

I’m hoping (praying) that since this is a shitposting sub, you and I both are just particularly gullible and this is not an actual thing.

Can you imagine what your performance would be like if your boss only checked in on you every 2-4 years and gave you a pass/fail grade on a curve?!

Career politicians rely on voter apathy to take advantage of the position in order to enrich themselves and their friends at the cost of the people they are supposed to serve.

The solution is to have a more politically informed and engaged populace, who participate in local meetings, town halls, run to represent their communities and participate in elections up and down the ballot - including primaries.

Let’s not forget that AOC went from a bartending activist, to a representative in the US congress. She’s not the only one, either.

If every congressional district had an equally earnest candidate - regardless of political affiliation - then the US wouldn’t be the absolute shit show it currently is.

Makes me all the more glad I wasn’t tempted by the $666 USD Doom 1&2 CE they were spruiking over Easter.

If you ever want to retry Parks and Rec, I highly suggest starting at second last episode of the second season (S02E23) - which is the episode where Rob Lowe and Adam Scott join and round out the cast.

If the show still doesn’t click for you then, then it’s definitely not going to - and you can ignore it forever more without any niggling doubts!

Having just completed rewatching the series, I completely understand.

It really requires binging an entire season over a few days in order to properly track, especially given that the story is told across a number of different periods of time - and it doesn’t truly become apparent until the last few episodes what is meant to have occurred when.

I can’t even figure out how I was able to keep up with it when it was coming out episodically! I probably didn’t.. 😬

I’ve been hoping for a voxel-based RTS revival game for ages! This is a bit more old-school (still longing for that Red Alert 2 era), but still looks very interesting - will hopefully give it a play over this Easter long weekend and report back.

Given that most of the delay in building more/denser housing in California is due to NIMBYs fearing a drop in property values..

..what’s to stop them from calling the cops on people living out of their cars on the street in front of their house?

This entire proposal is beyond stupid, and is one of the underlying causes of the rise in right-wing populism all over the US.

What the Government should do is use the threat of Eminent Domain and buy out a ~dozen houses in a certain block, tear them down and build ~100 affordable apartments for families (i.e. 3+ bedroom, 2+ bathrooms) in their place - and make them available to lower-and middle income families on a rent-to-own basis.

If neighbouring plots complain, threaten them with Eminent Domain also, and continue on until the entirety of the unhoused population is accounted for.
