Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

Minecraft and Terraria each fit the other game's title better than their own.

  • I'm having this problem on Android rn. Coming from iOS, the content density is just super low, and no amount of tweaking display/font size will fix it 🙁

My screen is 50% padding now 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • These are all backwards. The eyes are reversed so everything that's supposed to be a hole looks like a bump and vice-versa.

EDIT : TIL about cross v wall eyed. I dont understand why they would do it this way though ? The image is much less stable, and moving it at all completely breaks the effect. Wall-eyed really allows you to move and observe details without breaking.

  • NixOS.

    • I have access to more packages than with any other package manager.
    • everything to get my setup in the exact state I want is in my config, which is 90% useable on any other distro thanks to home manager
    • My config is all in one place and easy to share
    • If I ever break something, I can always roll back
    • I don't need Docker
  • Add a whole bunch of white on white nonsense ! You can also insert letters in the middle of words with a font size of 0, although that fucks up a human copy-pasting too, so probably not recommended.

The simplest way is to make your CV an image, and include no OCR data (or nonsense OCR data) in the PDF

  • Universities have not been in the business if monetizing knowledge for decades, if not centuries.

Knowledge has been easy to access for a LONG time. Universities give you access to a well constructed curriculum, competent teachers, and a certificate you actually learnt the material somewhat decently.

American universities are too expensive, yes, but American anything means you pay more and you get less, so singling out universities is missing the forest for a tree (even if arguably one of the biggest of those trees)

  • Maybe it says more about me than about game pass, but even at 5€ a month it would be significantly more money than I spend on games every year.

Not that I couldn't afford it, but I mostly play games that are at least 5 to 10 years old, either on second-hand physical copies or heavily discounted sales/keyshops. The most recent game I've bought is Elden Ring, even then only recently because I found a cheap physical copy.

  • I've heard Flatpaks aren't great at CLI tools, is that true ?

As a Nix user, I'm glad Flatpaks exist for other people, but I only ever use them when a package is not available from Nix directly. Seeing as Nix is literally the biggest package manager out there, it's a pretty rare occurrence.

  • I don't care what bias they do and don't have ; if you use an LLM to select résumés, you don't deserve to hire me. I make my résumé illegible for LLMs on purpose.

( But don't follow my advice. I don't actually need a job so I can pull this kinda nonsense and be selective, most people probably can't )
