  • Yattee is so much slower than uYOU. You can also go to any instance url on safari browser and add it to the homescreen and use inviduous as a webapp. But neither one works as good as uYOU when I'm out on the road.

  • Invidious has a bug where it doesn't update as frequently as it's supposed to. I've had this issue on both my self hosted and public instances. I'm thinking about switching to freetube. Always hear about it but never tried it

  • How am I shilling, you dope? I said what I did for MY personal experience. I never once said other people have to use it. In fact I would never recommend Linux to non tech savvy family members, unless they only do light shit like web browsing.

  • Here's another trick. Go to youtube and then go to your Firefox menu and check "desktop site". And then you can install it as a PWA on your Homescreen. Don't worry, when you open it up for the first time from your Homescreen, it will be back in Mobile web format.

This essentially makes it an isolated app from your browser. Not cluttering up your history and tabs.

  • This is exactly what I need to do. I have a custom domain attached to Protonmail. I've been using duck duck go for aliases with Bitwarden but this solution sounds perfect. I always wondered what that catch all option meant.

  • One thing I forgot to mention: when you turn your screen off or switch to another app, the video playback will stop. The easy way around this is to use Firefox Mobile. Go to settings > add ons and enable the "Video Background Play Fix" add-on. Now your video will keep playing in the background when the screen is off.

  • Same thing for Android. I have YouTube Revanced on my Android but been using iNVidious a lot more instead. It's much less noisy without the YouTube suggestions algorithm and you can see only the videos that YOU want to see.

Just go here and pick an instance and go to the webpage. Then add it to your home screen as a Web app. And you're done. You can make a login to sync your subscription and playlists across all of your devices too.

Also, you could take it a step further and host your own instance if you know how to spin up docker containers. That's what I did. But you don't need to. You could always just use one of the many public instances.
