  • It's possible the tanker was the stand on boat and expected the container ship to alter its course. As the tanker isn't the most manoeuvrable of vessels, it could have then left it too late to take avoiding action. They rarely move even when not the stand on vessel. Obviously, they should have been raising hell on the radio and prove that, too.

If they have the AIS transmissions from both vessels, it would be extremely unlikely they weren't also receiving it. Now, if nobody was watching it, then that's going to be a proper paddling once it goes to court.

I'm assuming the fog made it hard for visuals at a distance.

  • This would be like you downloading a dvd iso from TPB, then pressing millions of copies of it, then selling it online via Amazon. As openai is trying to directly profit from the work they "stole"

  • So there will be more funds from the central pot for councils to fund supporting SEND at mainstream school, right? RIGHT?

Honestly this is a dumb a decision as I have seen so far from this government. SEND in mainstream schools already costs a huge amount of a councils budget and is massively underfunded and under resourced as a consequence.

All it does is lower every pupils attainment not just the SEND kids who also have an unsuitable environment forced on them.

Couple this with successive governments making it harder to get a proper EHCP if they haven't started the process in Primary School means there are far more kids than on the offiical SEND list that should be getting proper support.

Whats actually needed is picking a mainstream school in each area and converting it to a dedicated SEND school as a minimum. Then moving those who would benefit to that school while moving those who wouldn't out. Most areas have more than enough kids for this to work. Its not going to completely solve the problem but it would be a big improvement on the shit show we have now.

  • Seems to be missing stenotype keyboards like this one: https://stenokeyboards.com/

They have to be the fastest way to type if you can learn the chords properly, around 200wpm.

I have always wanted to move to a steno keyboard but not had the focus to put in a an hour a day for a month or so to get good at it.

I do use a lot of 30 and 40% keyboards and use chording on those but not for actual letters, just stuff like backspace or enter. Smallest I can actually do work with is the Pain 27 thanks to using home row mods and chords but that step to remembering all the letters as well just needs a lot of extra practice.

  • He is never getting it unless Lawson starts crashing into Max and has to be replaced mid season, regardless of who is at fault, and even then I am not certain.

At this point we down to conspiracy theories as to why he is never even under consideration when Danny was despite being well past his best, and Checo had the seat.

I'm going with Max keep vetoing it as hes scared of the competition offered by Yuki /s

  • Ive said repeatedly that its certain to be an issue with their setup I have even provided proof that its not typical.

Its just a terminal applies to pretty much every type of application. There are lightweight WM, text editors, terminals, etc. etc. for a reason.

I can run my current setup with its 2 different animated 4k wallpapers and all the over shit I have running on my old 4800u that is only slightly slower and it consumes an insane amount of CPU at idle. Just because you can does not mean you should.

  • Its six years old, that's starting to get on a bit now for a processor that was never anywhere near top of the line from AMD when it was new.

I think if you are trying to bling our your desktop and not expecting it to impact performance from an older, less powerful setup then generally speaking you are going to have a bad time. You should be pitching your desktop experience based on what your hardware can handle, there are plenty of terminal options available depending on what you need, just like there are plenty of WM/DMs if you have a lower spec machine.

Having said that, it was pretty damn obvious that there something wrong with ghostty on their setup, and its misleading to say that ghostly is just bad because of that.

  • Its a bit slower than Alacritty for my use case, not massively enough, but enough to put me off. The extra functionality such as its TMUX stuff I just do not need. I think if you want a more fully featured terminal, particularly if you do a lot of code writing in the terminal, then I would pick Kitty.

I only really do quick remote editing in the console so its not important for me, and I do not want TMUX as I use a tiling WM. Terminal launch speed is particularly important to me because of this.

I haven't tried foot yet, that is meant to be good for wayland and as I use Sway it might be better fit. I would need to get frustrated with Ghostty before I could be bothered to switch, which is what happened to me with Alacritty over image support, shallow as that sounds.

  • ryzen 5 3600

Yeah thats what I would call old now, lol.

There is 100% something wrong with your Ghostty.

Heres a shitty gif I made to show you how fast Ghostty, Alacritty and Konsole is on my PC, all way less than a second and I am running a ton of background crap including different 4k animated wallpapers. Gif

  • I recently switched from alacritty to ghostty as I wanted image support as ghostty implements the kitty protocol for it. Ghostty seems as fast as alacrity to me, but with better support. It even has a tmux type replacement, although I haven't used it as I don't need it with sway doing that for me.

  • Money and time no object? I would do a tour of the Pacific islands on a 110 Wally sailboat complete with crew so I get to do the fun stuff like helming and none of the boring stuff I don't feel like doing that day. Would hit at a minimum Galapagos, Tahiti, Fiji, New Caledonia and on down to the Sundays in Australia. Would take about 6 months although I could spend a lifetime there.

If I was time limited to two weeks? Sailing in the Bahamas in a Outreamer cat, these are as large as I can safely handle with my partner and its a lot lot shallower than the Wally so I get to explore far more of the Bahamas. Shorter holidays I want less flight time, so direct like this is perfect.

  • George Russell and whatever American from Indie car they can find who looks competitive - I don't know Indie car, so no idea who they are. That way, you get both experience from George and a popular driver in the Indie car guy.

  • I have 2x32"@4k side by side at 100% scaling. No way I would switch to a single ultrawide as I would be losing screen size, so I would have to adjust the ratio to make it the same size and thus lose screen real estate.

I also prefer two monitors as I have different workspaces for each so I can switch just half the "screen" between different groups of apps. It would also be harder for my tiling WM, sway, to tile the large number of apps currently split over two workspaces without a lot more faffing.

Oh and switching apps to full screen would be less useful, I use that a lot as it's just two keys to flip it back and forth. I can keep reference on the other screen and the other app full screen.

  • Which EVs have front drum brakes?

Regen comes in all different strengths depending on what the automaker decides is appropriate for that car and the budget assigned to it. Cheap EVs like this one you can normally turn it off or on, and may be get a one pedal mode.

Something like the latest Taycan is pretty brutal with it set to its highest level when traveling at speed and that's just lifting off the throttle. I feather the throttle when using regen to adjust the level it gives me, otherwise it would be an awful experience for my passengers, bit like some one stamping on the brake every time you want to slow down. Using the throttle to adjust the regen is no different to using the brake pedal progressively once you get used to it.

Regen is there to supplement the brakes not replace them for emergency or other unplanned stops. Once you doing an emergency stop you are at the mercy of the ABS system anyway, as that will limit your stopping distance based on the actual grip you have at that moment in time.

  • EV wheels done correctly actually lower the drag on the car improving efficiency. If they are done really well they also lighter with lower rolling resistance reducing that all important unsprung weight, which further helps efficiency.

Wheels even affect ICE cars, with larger heavier wheels impacting CO2 rating and economy for some models. The VW XL1 is an extreme example of this pushed as far as it could go at the time.

  • If I am relying on it, I buy from brands I trust. No brand is going to be perfect but some are clearly going to be lower risk than randoms from aliexpress. Its as much to do with reliability, achievable duty cycle (rather than promises of duty cycle), support (especially how easy it is to get a replacement under warranty), how long they will push firmware updates for, than just security trustworthiness.

Pretty much any device is going to have a vulnerability or potential for a back door at some point but the company being transparent about the issue and fixing it promptly is worth a lot. Its the same reason I would have a Google or (premium) Samsung phone, I trust that they will support the phone for the time period they say they will, something I would not do with say Oneplus based on my past experience of them.

I buy electronics from aliexpress all the time, but nothing I rely on day to day like a router, simply because I am shit out of luck getting it replaced quickly if it goes wrong, even if I want to get a replacement. I have a cheap mikrotik hex I keep as a backup of a backup (my APs are my primary backup for my router), and this is fine for a week or so but I would not want to be out a month or more with it.

I guess you could plan in proper redundancy as I have, or may be you can afford a an outage, so may be you don't need that. If I cannot work, I cannot earn, so I have backup internet, routers, wifi etc. planned into my install.

I think what someone else wrote about defense is depth is the real key here. I have my network divided into separate VLANs that are firewalled off from each other, so one for IoT, one for cameras, one for my TVs and other screens, one for my devices. This means if something is compromised they still have to get across the network and it simplifies my firewall rules as I am applying them to subnets rather than individual devices in a self maintained group. It makes it easier to say block external DNS queries and redirect to my pihole for my IoT and TVs but not my personal devices as I would have a good reason to go external.

May be you do not have a lot of devices, I realize I am nearer the upper end of a home network with over 50 active devices and it will be over kill if you only have a laptop and a phone on your network.

  • I think a big part of this being cancelled at this late stage is Europe stepping up and offering peace keepers. I do not think Trump counted on that and wanted the deal with basically no peacekeepers. All along, he was was no to supplying security.

This would have given putin time to rebuild and carte blanche to renew the attack when he was able. Putin can't do that if Europe is in Ukraine as that would be a massive escalation.
