  • Honestly, to me even watching people do that whole "we share everything, we have no secrets, we completely gave up our own personality" routine is incredibly creepy. I wouldn't want a partner who expects the relationship to replace literally everything in their life, that sounds exhausting. Not to mention that I am definitely not going to share everything someone else tells me in confidence with any partner, those are not my secrets to share.

  • Weren't there some wargames a few decades ago where some group playing the "terrorists" sank a US carrier with nothing but a few speedboats and some RPGs or something similar? I am thinking of the one where they "rolled back" the wargame. It has been quite a while since I read that so I don't remember all the details.

  • Do you have any idea how much money the wealthy actually have? The sum of all crypto-currencies put together is a drop in the bucket compared to that. Not to mention that the money is basically useless in that form without someone willing and able to buy it for some sort of actually usable currency.

  • Well, the problem is that in a situation like the one we are in right now having software processes all locked into American companies is actually a huge strategic problem in certain areas so it makes sense to limit those (e.g. government, military,...) to software where that control can't be taken away by a foreign power. So essentially those should be under our control for much the same reasons energy and food production should be.

  • Personally I would prefer if they preferred European companies in some cases, especially when it came to strategic matters and the danger of supply chain attacks or vendor lock-in. Or, even better, things that aren't tied to any single company like open source projects.
