  • Why make the filesystem so contrived just to bow to snaps, just seems all wrong to me.

But what do I know they dropped the kiss principle years ago.

  • I've made a few posts to arch forums and never faced issues.

Perhaps it helps that I work in enterprise tech support so I'm used to providing a lot of verbose info about a given issue I'm facing when requesting help. I also show what I've done in an attempt to resolve it.

Many of the so called toxic responses I've seen on there have been to posts that I would say don't follow rules or just give very minimal info.

Trilby is also one of the best responders on there but have had a few blunt responses from others.

  • The scales read 1 kilo, just like he said.

  • All of a sudden I have an itchy nose!

  • I stopped using resolved as it tends to ignore what I tell it to do and still grab DNS from the router which I don't want and can't disable on the proprietary router.

openresolv/Resolveconf was never broken in the first place so I'm not sure what systemd was trying to fix with this.

  • I just want the software I've chosen to work and do what I want it to well.

I'm not choosing software based on anything else as it's not part of my decision framework when making software choices. If it was where do you draw the line? Do we only vet the C tier if not why not vet the Dev team as they are the people that actually create the product , Then the Q&A and R&D teams because without them the software would be more buggy and not have cutting edge features.

It's just a rabbit hole that's best avoided and for the most part I'd argue that 90% of people don't think or even care about the points raised because it's the last thing they think about when choosing a browser.

Good for you if you do, That's your choice.

  • Which ever one you chose don't forget you need to do a good job at vetting all the top people involved just to ensure their personal morals and social opinions align with the current trends of social media.

  • This article has attracted the obvious responses it wants to attract.

I bet many who've responded in agreement with the sentiment of this article use windows which is tied to a company that has done far worse than brave software.

Edit: I am not sitting here for hour or more trying to figure out who is employed at a company of a piece of software I chose to use just to ensure their personal opinions, views and opinions align with current trends on what is sociably acceptable.

If we all were to apply this to all the software we use you will fast find out that you'll be looking for quite a few alternatives to what you assumed was neutral or aligned to your view point.

  • I'd like to daily drive EndeavourOS but I dislike Dracut and removing that is a bit of a pita, just wish they'd give an install option to not have it.

  • This is etched on to my soul and retina.

If any Arch pc/laptop I use has not been touched in over 6 month this is the first command and I'm thinking of a way to make an alias called upgrade point to a function that checks the time of the last pacman.log entry against current time and if there is a 6 month or larger difference to automatically do this for me so I don't forget lol.

  • So you need to work out what you actually want to access and use the correct protocol/command combo.

You mentioned in your post 2 protocols SMB and NFS.

If the share is SMB/windows then use mount -t cifs ... (make life easier and ensure guest access is correct and working)

If the share is NFS then use mount -t nfs .... (beware that nfs is also version specific)

Additionally use the correct gvfs tools either gvfs-smb or gvfs-nfs.

And as always when using arch based distro's refer to wiki for full setup guides/examples

  • naaww.

Looks like my stepdaughters cat Nacho.

  • You're mixing protocols on your share and access.

You mount with NFS then try to access with gvfs-smb, What you actually need is gvfs-nfs.

    I use Arch xfce/awesomewm btw.

  • I know they're floppies but when I see them like this it always reminds me of the first intern role I had at datacard/gemplus UK, I had to change the disk stacks in the main frame at specific times with specific access codes, lift the lid and pull out the disk stacks, put them on a specific numbered trolly and insert the next stack.

Was all very precise and I saw someone screw it once, glad it was a perm staffer and not me, I took so many notes on that process I dreamt of them for years.
