  • The money companies use to fund projects comes from the value of employees' labor. It would be unusual, at least in the US, for an owner/CEO to be funding company projects out of their own pocket. The company's money comes from the employees' efforts.

  • Different people have different experiences for lots of reasons. Like I used to have constant problems with Windows that took days to fix, and some people never had any problems. It depends on your hardware, software, settings, what you're doing with it...with every OS.

  • So cute. So yellow.

  • So annoying. I have to restart Freetube so many times to play a video.

  • Mine loves to reminisce, but she also claims to not remember actions that make her look bad, or she claims they never happened and I'm lying because of my "insecurity." But I think her preemptive "oh, but you were a child!" suggests that she actually does remember these things. If she didn't remember her actions, she wouldn't be trying to make me doubt my own memories of them decades after I stopped arguing with her and just distanced myself.

  • I've heard good things about Infomaniak. Whatever works for you!

  • Yes, I think there's a lot of truth to that, sadly.

  • Nextcloud offers a free account for home users through one of their partner companies, if you go to their signup page. That includes storage space, calendar access, and the ability to sync your calendar & contacts. If you want to pick your own provider, there are reviews on many in the Nextcloud forum. I've used Woelkli's Nextcloud instance for years and never had any problem with them, but I think they may not currently be open to new accounts.

  • From your description, it sounds like it might've been revised in the last few years. The version I bought, which was published in 2015, was rough. Maybe I will re-read it and see how it hits me now.

  • I haven't used Lightroom, so I can't comment on how similar they are either. But there are enough good options that hopefully anyone switching can find one that meets their needs. :)

  • My mother was constantly telling me what my thoughts, feelings, and needs were when I was growing up. She never tried to get to know me. When I would explain my actual feelings or opinions, in detail, she'd accuse me of lying. I think she was actually just projecting everything she didn't like about herself, and sometimes her mother and sisters, onto me. Some of the qualities I supposedly had were mutually exclusive, or just didn't make sense when applied to the life stage I was in. She was telling me she hated how haughty and arrogant I was since I was 3 years old, at least. When I was a teen, out of nowhere, one day she started to tell me how sad it was that I was so insecure. I was like, I thought I was arrogant. How can I be arrogant and insecure at the same time? She said I'm arrogant because I'm insecure. But, she'd been characterizing me that way since I was a small child. What small child thinks or acts that way? Little kids are notoriously honest and straight-forward. What 3 year old has the emotional sophistication to behave arrogantly to cover up insecurity, and what does a 3 year old have to even be insecure about?

  • My mother, now that she is old, frequently asks if I remember random things: people I used to know, places I've been, hobbies I used to enjoy. And when I say yes, her response is, "Oh, but that was so long ago!" or, "But you were just a child then!" I think what she actually wants to know is if I remember all the horrible things she said and did to me. 🙄

  • I've only used Nemo in Linux, but I can't think of anything Windows file explorer can do that it can't.

  • Some fast food place, I don't remember which, used to serve orange juice mixed with hot & bitter spices. That was really good.

  • Maybe not that strange, but I love natural peanut butter and locust honey on whole grain pancakes. I also love an ice cream float made with Sprite and chocolate ice cream.

  • Chicken breast sells for about about $6-7 per pound where I live. Dark meat is a little cheaper. Factory farmed can be even cheaper, but I don't like to support companies like that treat animals badly.

  • I read this book years ago and was disappointed by it. It's basically a list of anecdotes shared with the author by clients mixed with descriptions of studies she'd read. She didn't sound like she has any personal experience with the subject, or any real insight. The way she portrayed her clients, and children of immature parents in general, also bothered me. There's the "good ones" who blame themselves for their parents' behavior and are always the innocent victims, and the "bad ones" who blame someone else for everything and also sexually abuse their siblings. No depth or nuance in the way she sees the people she writes about, and no sympathy for children who react badly to their parents' fuckery. The final thing I found lacking was that the book doesn't really go into how to deal with immature parents: different ways of interacting with them that can be helpful, if and how to cut contact, etc. It's all about helping people to realize that your parents treating you badly is a bad thing. Like, okay, but then what?I respect that the content is helpful to some people, but personally I regret spending $35 on it. Might be better to look for it at the library.

  • My parents always discouraged me from trying things and gave me self-serving advice.

  • I use Nextcloud's calendar, which works with any client that's compatible with CalDAV, and my ISP's email service with AnonAddy and SimpleLogin redirects.
