  • Not even 'oddly enough.'

While you can't own a bomb factory without proper authorization (because its only purpose is building bombs), something as general-purpose as a 3D printer would absolutely enjoy first amendment protections.

Interesting tidbit: it's not illegal to make your own guns in the US. You don't even need a license.

  • Eh. With how tribalist American politics has become, it's usually only a matter of throwing shit to the wall to see what sticks.

This may not stick, but if it does you can bet your sweet ass it will be a primary issue for democrats.

  • Jokes aside, why is this happening so much recently?

It's cyclical and very well understood at this point.

A business will hire a bunch of people to meet demand and then lay them off to make the company's earnings look better the following quarter.

At this point, I have no sympathy for anyone targeted by these layoffs if they work for a company that has been known to do them. Real 'leopards ate my face', vibes.

  • Yeah, it's a big reason why I'm never in a hurry to adopt 'the next big thing' until it's proven to be the next big thing or I have an immediate use for it.

No point in bogging myself down in theory when practicality works just fine.

  • Immutability has always struck me as a fad.

Aside from declaring variables as FINAL or whatever because I know they won't be changed, the mere idea of using it as a default just seems unnecessarily restrictive to me.

It feels like people who bog themselves down in theory to solve their problems instead of practicality think immutability is a godsend.

For everyone else, it doesn't really matter at best or is an inconvenience at worst.

  • Manjaro.

It does what I need it to in a way that is convenient and accessible to me.

I agree with pretty much all of their design decisions and am just looking for a preconfigured Arch.

Been running it exclusively for the past 3 years and have no inclination on switching.

  • faster flip phones

I don't think speed was a complaint anyone had about phones right before smartphones launched.

People were mostly concerned with cell phone plans. Talking used to be charged by the minute, texting was charged per text, and data was practically non-existent.

Cell phones have come a long way, but I think a lot of people take for granted just how much cell service has improved. I pay $25/month for a single line that gives me unlimited talk, text, and data (Visible). Couldn't be happier.
