In this moment impeachment is a waste of time. They would be better served (1) governing super well in places they are in charge (to demonstrate they are the better option - something that is inconsistent today); (2) figuring out why people are voting for Trump; (3) developing strong messaging and strategy to win races top to bottom of the ballot. I've been unimpressed with their ability to both run and govern recently (with some exceptions here and there). Maybe it is catching up with them.
Taxing people appropriately is obviously the right way to go. But it actually doesn't change the dynamic identified in the meme substantially. Rich people still hoard resources (albeit less after taxes). And basic needs are only met if enough people keep working to pay taxes or enrich their employers who pay taxes.
Also, at what point do you tip into you-dont-get-choose-your-job land? Is it still considered freedom if you are required to have a job to serve basic needs of the larger community? For example, we need more doctors even without universal healthcare in the US. If we covered the basic needs of everyone, wouldn't we have to require some people to become doctors, who are not on that trajectory today?
I do wonder what the alternative is... Would that be growing/hunting your own food and making your own clothes and building your own shelter? I don't know about anyone else, but I would not live long in that scenario.
My husband stays at home and does all things home (cooking, cleaning, kids etc.) and I work and do all things outside of the home. While we don't have as much money as a two income household, not having to do daycare has been a real benefit both financially and for the kids. I think if it is possible (and makes everyone happy), it is an excellent lifestyle.
Probably both are needed. Protests alert our leaders to what we do and don't like, which can help to reduce terrible legislation. Groups like the ACLU offer legal challenges to things that have already passed. Many people can't do both - but could do one of them.
I have kids and love it. There is 100% more trampoline in my life because of them. Mine are both autistic and have quirky interests which we've leaned into (visited the fan museum, attended the international carwash convention, and have spent countless hours at home depot, etc), so that's a little bit of a bonus. I have friends who don't have kids and are equally as happy. You just gotta choose the right path for you.
