  • Our frontend is globally distributed (so if you're in the US, you get it from a US server), but the backend server and user data are hosted in the EU.

  • Some sort/filter/pagination methods become extremely unoptimized under certain circumstances, so they have been disabled for a little while now. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I believe this is necessary for now in order to keep things running smoothly.

  • Hey, it should be OK now!

  • Hey! Sorry, but I'm not prepared to share lemm.ee Terraform files for a couple of reasons. First of all, there are already a LOT of constant attacks by malicious actors against Lemmy instances, so I don't want to give them more information about our infrastructure if I can help it. Secondly, I have also seen a lot of new admins who get in over their heads recently by just copy-paste deployments without understanding what or why they're doing, so I don't want to contribute to this.

However, I have written down high level notes about how I have deployed Lemmy in the official docs, you can check it out here: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/administration/horizontal_scaling.html

  • Just keep in mind that they're very different books. You might not even like both of them - personally, I really struggled to get through Hyperion, but Dune is an all time favorite.

  • You can reach out to admins directly if there is reason to believe that reports are being closed by mods before admins can see them

  • This particular community was removed this morning.

I don't want to go into too many details, but suffice it to say that this is not the first time the responsible users (or, potentially, single user with multiple accounts) has tried to cause disruptions on lemm.ee, so this is why they have been banned from lemm.ee as well.

I know the community is still visible on sh.itjust.works. The reason for this is most likely technical - either the community removal action did not get received properly by that instance, or the fact that one of the mods was a user of that instance has prevented the removal from being acknowledged by sh.itjust.works. Either way, lemm.ee is not hosting this community anymore.

  • Well, the most reported bot at the moment is not a Reddit repost bot at all. We would like to solve the issue on a more general level at the moment - by limiting volume of bot content in relation to organic user-created content.

  • It seems lemm.ee is not at a scale yet where we can allow even such useful bots without overloading our local feeds with bot posts. I am sure we can re-evaluate this if activity continues to grow, though.

  • Well, I'm an Estonian citizen at least 😅

  • Damn, even $11.99 sounds like a lot - I only pay 12.99€ for a family plan in Europe.

  • Is there a "lost lemmings" community yet? 😄

  • Subscribed feed + hot sort is the best way to experience Lemmy, I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this 😅

  • First of all, I have made a small change to Lemmy to allow instance admins to set the default feed for new users. The default feed for all new lemm.ee users is actually "All" now!

I think over time, the local feed will probably improve as well for those who are interested in it, but for now "All" seems to be a much safer choice.

As for bots that just mass-post content - I am personally not a fan of them. Maybe it indeed makes sense to tune the algorithm to value bot content less that real human content (at least by a little). I will monitor the situation for a while and try to come up with some ideas.

  • By the way, do you remember any specific comment where this occured? I would love to do some testing if you can link a comment like this.

  • When they reply to my comment thread I am unable to reply to them

AFAIK this is due to most (or all?) kbin users limiting what language you're allowed to reply in. Try setting your comment language to "English", then it should go through (Edit: I see you already got this advice from @thegiddystitcher as well).

when I log into kbin.social directly and post there my comment doesn’t show up on lemm.ee for some time.

Not much we can do about this - your comment shows up on lemm.ee as soon as kbin.social sends it over.

  • We had a <10 minute outage due to an issue with our database. I was able to quickly bring it back up, but the root cause is still under investigation.

  • Unfortunately, lemm.ee is the only instance that can push out your posts to other instances 😃
