  • Hamas is a terrorist organization currently engaged in a war with Israel. They are the defacto rulers of the Gaza strip, and most of their members are in Gaza. However, many Hamas leaders live outside of Gaza.

They are listed as a terrorist organization by the US, Canada, UK, the EU, and more.

Their charter declares their goals to be the violent destruction of Israel, the establishment of an Islamic caliphate in the land of Palestine, and killing all Jews worldwide.

  • Also trying to smuggle in military supplies in humanitarian aid:

Meanwhile, two senior Israeli officials told The Times of Israel that Israeli inspectors earlier this week uncovered several oxygen concentrators meant to aerate the tunnels operated by terror organizations in Gaza.

“These weren’t for use in the hospitals, but below them. That’s why they were smuggled among boxes of cookies,” one of the senior Israeli officials said, adding that the entire truck in which the oxygen concentrators were found was barred from entering Gaza.

  • How many rockets has Israel fired at Gaza? How many millions of Gazans have been driven from their homes?

6000+ air strikes targeting military infrastructure and around 1m displaced.

But this article is about the ongoing rocket attacks on civilians inside Israel, and the displaced Israelis, not Gaza.

  • It's wonderful to see you agree that Arab Jews also have a right of return, and deserve reparations for their stolen assets during the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Muslim countries

EDIT: I'm trolling you with this comment, but I feel a little bad about it. Let's just agree to disagree and take the rest of the day to cool off

  • The people living in that camp were done dirty by the 1949 armistice, don't get me wrong. But it's been 75 years; they need to move on.

Palestinians are literally the only refugees on the planet who pass down refugee status to their children. That's based on the definition that the UN made up because the Arab countries didn't want to take in Palestinians.

They've had 75 years to move out of that camp and make their own lives better. At some point, they need wipe the snot off their noses and stop crying. The Jews who were ethnically cleansed from the Arab countries faced adversity when they moved to Israel, but they've moved on and made their lives much better.

  • Jabalia Refugee Camp was established in 1948.

It's not a temporary housing measure. The buildings are all high-density multi-family dwellings constructed from reinforced concrete.

Calling it a refugee camp cheapens the word for people who are displaced from their homes and forced into temporary housing during a war.

  • Their policy is also stated in their charter, which goes beyond just killing all Israeli civilians. It says they will kill all the Jews everywhere in the world.

But perhaps you'd prefer to see actions - Israel is currently engaged in urban combat with an enemy who intentionally uses civilian infrastructure (a war crime, by the way). There will be collateral damage from this, especially when Hamas don't allow civilians to evacuate out of the heavy combat areas.

Hamas on the other hand are continuing to launch rockets daily at civilian targets in Israel, intentionally targeting civilians while celebrating every rocket siren.

  • Finish the quote:

Overwhelming evidence has emerged over the past three weeks of deliberate attacks against Israeli civilians, as part of the instructions given by Hamas commanders. In many cases, the terrorists went from house to house and executed or burned entire families, and some 260 civilians were massacred at an outdoor music festival.

Your mental gymnastics are Olympic level, mate.

  • area of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

The usage of the word "refugee camp" calls to mind tent cities set up as temporary housing measures. Jabalia Camp was established in 1948.

These are Gazans who did not evacuate to the south, and Hamas do not differentiate between their reporting of their armed members and civilians, so some of the 50 reported may have been involved in active combat.

  • The Israeli regulations around employing any foreign worker are very fair on paper (Google Translate), but there are regular stories highlighting various abuses of the system.

The only rights they don't get compared to an Israeli citizen seem to be around some retirement benefits and some social security stuff. In many ways, it's more complicated than employing an Israeli as they are required to provide them with housing and some industries have required levels of overtime.

The Thai minimum wage seems to be around 330 baht per day. That comes out to around 4.5 shekels per hour, compared to Israeli minimum wage of 30 shekels per hour.

So 5-6 times more is about right, assuming they would be earning minimum wage in both places.

  • ...Kunwong was left for dead, heavily bleeding from the wound in his throat. He was eventually found and cared for by other migrant workers. He managed to survive, he believes, because the knife had been blunt and broken.

He wasn't released by Hamas. He escaped the hell of October 7th by sheer luck.

speaks to the economic barriers that are in the way to integration of the populations

There were many Palestinians living in the West Bank and even from Gaza who would enter Israel to work in various industries (mostly agriculture and construction) prior to October 7th. Most legally with work visas, and some illegally. I doubt that that level of economic cooperation will ever return.

  • Nasrallah needs to show solidarity with Hamas, in part to ensure a continued flow of funding from Iran. However, Lebanon cannot handle another war, and the other political factions have already been pressuring Hezbollah to not escalate.

Israeli leadership seems to want to go after Hezbollah, but have been warned off by international pressure to not open a second front. This is the other half of Biden's "don't". It's a warning to Israel to keep the conflict contained.

Ultimately though, Hezbollah are willing and able to go tit for tat. So long as Israel continues to kill off firing teams, Hezbollah will feel obligated to respond. Hamas do have some forces in Lebanon and will attempt to draw Hezbollah into the conflict as they have in the past. So the northern front will continue to simmer with a few casualties daily until the war ends. Or I could be wrong and it will either go fully quiet or fully open.

  • Yeah, the misleading headline/tagline are 100% on the site. Heck, the community rules require the title to match the article, so it's not like you had an option.

Feiglin is a nutjob, but he's unfortunately a shrewd politician and Israeli politics are currently dominated by finge nutjobs.

In general, calling someone a diplomat implies that they are currently representing the State. While it is an impressive qualification, and Italy is not a minor posting, he would face very real consequences for saying those things if he were currently holding that position.

That ultimately is kind of the point: neither of them will face domestic consequences for this. One has always been at the fringe shouting hateful stuff, and the other works for a right wing newspaper as an opinion writer.

  • People who talk about genocide usually agree with the whole river to the sea thing which is literal genocide.

For anyone else reading who is unfamiliar: "from the river to the sea, we will be free" is a slogan used by many Palestinians that refers to their desire to have a single Palestinian state with no Jews at all. It is a call to violence.

If you're just reading the propaganda and think there's a literal genocide going on, go ahead and read about the Armenian genocide. Then compare the actions, and how many have passed. Israel sometimes has incredibly oppressive policies, but they are far from a genocide and raising that accusation is particularly hurtful given the Jewish people's history of the Holocaust.
