  • The southern Strip is objectively safer than the north. The blood of those people killed here are on the hands of UNRWA for refusing to close their facilities in the northern Strip. It's on the hands of the employees in that school who told those families they were safe when they were not.

There are lots of dead children for two primary reasons: Hamas uses child soldiers, and Hamas uses kids as human shields. If you can't look past the Arabic media's repeated accusations of genocide and ethnic cleansing to believe for a moment that maybe Hamas are actually evil then I don't think anyone can help you.

  • If they're releasing surveillance footage, expect more to come out. They have already announced that Noa Marciano was executed inside the hospital - most likely on camera.

Also note that they are sharing much more with the US and EU than they are making public. It will likely include surveillance footage tagged with facial recognition of every senior Hamas member who walked through the hospital.

  • The people taking shelter did exactly what they thought was right at the time. I am not blaming them. They are getting the extremely short end of the stick here. I am blaming UNRWA for lying to them that their facilities are safe. I am also blaming Hamas for both starting this war, and lying to them that it's safer to stick around and be human shields for Hamas.

Gven the combat in the area, it was only a matter of time before a bomb gets dropped in the wrong place or someone fires a RPG in the wrong direction, or a tank shell skips off some rubble and goes off in the wrong direction.

  • I'd be extremely surprised if it's false. But there's a lot of combat nearby - Hamas fighters fled from Gaza City to Jabaliya and Zeitoun where they don't have a realistic escape route, and large Israeli forces who are actively engaged in combat through a dense urban area (quite literally at this very moment).

Not saying it's not tragic, but these deaths could have been prevented by civilians evacuating to the southern Strip. UNRWA hold some responsibility for offering their facilities as shelter when they know full well that their facilities have been used for military purposes in the past and are liable to be legitimate military targets as a result.

  • CNN only has a single screenshot of the video, which was run on Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera did not cite a source for the video.

Also important to note this is in a neighborhood that has seen extremely heavy combat in the last 48 hours. It's doubtful full details will come out for a while, if ever.

  • The Israeli military said some Hamas militants fled in vehicles and ambulances toward Jenin’s Ibn Sina hospital, and that troops stopped one of the vehicles at the entrance to the hospital. It released video footage of soldiers searching a car at the hospital and finding M-16 rifles and ammunition.

Palestinian health officials said some hospital workers were ordered to exit the hospital, with a verified video showing them walking out of the building, holding up their hands. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society accused the IDF of detaining and searching ambulance crews.

Watching the videos, the car was just inside the gate for the hospital, and there was an ambulance immediately to the left of it. No video of the chase or the actual firefight, or of the medics being told to leave the building - only them walking out.

  • Probably to hospitals in the southern Gaza strip. Not as safe as evacuating them to Ashkelon, but it's highly doubtful Israel will allow any Gazans to seek medical care inside Israel for a few years at least.

I haven't seen any image or video evidence of weapons yet. That will likely show up in a few days. The talking heads sometimes let things slip past the censors, and they've been hinting at something big. Not hostages big, but extremely clear evidence. They are saying that they've located tunnel entrances, including several that Hamas attempted to seal up and hide in the last few days.

  • centre of gravity

For those who are confused by what "Centre of gravity" means in this context:

Center of gravity (COG) is a military term that refers to the source of strength, balance, or stability necessary for a military force to maintain operation.

  • This article does a horrible job of explaining it.

Russia-adjacent countries have a strong incentive to support Israel if they want to purchase missile defense systems. Finland signed a deal earlier this week. Many countries around the world use Israeli-made/designed military systems, and they don't want to jeopardize their continued access to those systems.

The other factor is non-public intelligence - tack this sentence before every IDF tweet: "We have shared intelligence with our allies and are making a tiny bit public:"

  • It's the strongest public proof they've provided that Hamas are using hospitals for military purposes. They've been sharing intelligence with allied governments to that effect for a long time, but not making any of it public.

As for allowing patients to return that's a good question. I would assume they evacuated to the southern strip now. Even if the hospital building isn't compromised (that hole in the wall does indicate it may not be structurally safe), there probably isn't any water, electricity, or fuel. Most medical supplies were likely taken. So the only advantage is larger medical equipment that wasn't removed - probably the autoclaves are the only thing that are truly useful.

  • You could always just watch the video and make your own decision if you believe it shows what they claim it does.

You could even look up images of the hospital like this one: https://images.app.goo.gl/DT2xzdyRLvJjSvfd6 That building is directly to the left of the building with "Al_Quds Hospital" in English on it. The only question left is if that's a side entrance, or if it's a separate building that isn't part of the hospital itself.

  • Can you explain what you mean by "Didn’t happen in a vacuum"?

Best I can figure is that you disagree with the act itself, but agree with their motives or desires. But I really don't want to assume, and would prefer to understand from you.
