Lemmy hasn't quite reached the critical mass to have completely insane subs like /r/gangstalking or whatever. People here tend to have quite niche interests but relatively normal nerd ones. Some accounts are basically single-issue posters who have some political pet view that they shoehorn in everywhere.
Philosophy of science was big when I was still studying it. Stuff like whether the Linean System of classifying species were still fit for purpose or the gaps in our knowledge that modern physics leave.
My impression of it being like that is largely due to the split between analytic and continental philosophy. Anglophone universities tend to focus on the former and then the latter has a larger body of work from mainland Europe; the many French existentialist philosophers would be a good example.
My friend's father transitioned to a woman but she kept calling her "Dad". Not to invalidate her identity just that they were both happy to continue describing their relationship with that term.
This phrase is currently running riot at my work. Leadership have just created a new "North Star" so that they can Kingdom Build and leave their mark; years of progress on other projects are being thrown on a mini-bonfire of the vanities.
Their logic is that women are a historically oppressed group and that certain rights are a zero-sum game. They would say someone who has been born a man has forfeited male privilege and therefore don't have a right to anything which "belongs" to women.
If our discourse wasn't so polarised people wouldn't become entrenched like that but social media has made ration/empathetic discussion impossible.
I've had several occasions where I've seen doppelgangers out in public in my city but I'm 99% sure this is because I was a sperm donor baby. It was totally anonymous in the early 90s.
Could do one of those DNA test things but I have less than 0 interest in meeting a bunch of half siblings. Sounds messy. Already got two parents who I'm happy with.
If you have a prime account this is just you getting the full value out of the subscription. Yeah, they are a scummy company (and apparently terrible to work for too at every level) but lots of households have prime because there isn't another service that offers exactly the same things.
You need to speak to a citizens advice organisation or a charity to find options for consolidating your debt into payments you can afford. They'd rather get their money back than nothing at all so the debtors will work with you. If you are ignoring correspondences because they are scary then stop doing that because it will make things worse. Things will get better but you have to be proactive.
I wouldn't rely on ko.fi or venmo from strangers. Even if some angel pays off all of the debt you won't deal with the underlying issues in your lifestyle that have got you jnto this situation.
