They're taking a whack-a-mole approach for sure but it's either that or shut the whole instance down. I imagine their hope is that either the bad guys give up/lose interest or that it buys them some time.
Either way, it shows they are taking action which ultimately should help limit their liability.
Well they wouldn't so they'd end up having to setup a payment plan with the IRS but that would still be better than the debt load. I'd rather owe 20k to the IRS than 100K in fed loans. At the end of the day it's all money owed to Uncle Sam.
Personally though, I wouldn't bank on IBR, I'd much rather consolidate my loans privately at a better rate and pay them off as quick as possible rather than pay a high interest rate to the fed in hopes that they forgive it one day. I understand that's not an option for everyone though and some value the risk/reward differently.
If it's the report I think they're referring to, it basically said Aspartame is possibly carcinogenic but safe at normal consumption levels.
It raised a lot of doubt around Aspartame being carcinogenic without going so far as to deem it non carcinogenic, concluding that more studies are needed.
I wouldn't call it overwhelmingly positive for Coke but it's not hurting them.
The fall of newspapers led us down the path of click bait, low quality, ad driven "news". Very few newspapers survived the transition to digital because suddenly nobody wanted to pay for access to something they could get online for free. Those that did survive mostly exist in a much smaller form with low funding and reduced quality.
Personally, I'm excited to see it becoming more common for people to subscribe to news services again. I just wish there was more diversity and competition available like there was in the past but I'm hopeful we'll get there as more people seem to be opening back up to paying for high quality publications.
High quality journalism can't exist without paid subscribers but there are still ways to access it for those who can't afford it, visiting a local library for example.
True. They could close it off to the public at any time and only offer a subscription service.
However, they are probably afraid to do that for fear that they will lose out to competitors. Offering the service for free was the key to their popularity and bringing AI technology into the hands the average users. If they cut that off, someone else will quickly take their place.
I can definitely relate to this. When I was young and my taxes were dead simple I didn't think twice, now that I'm older and my tax situation is more complex I always fear that I've done something wrong no matter how many times I double check.
I may start paying someone just to avoid the anxiety but I probably won't because I'm too cheap.
If you think it might help I've got a bit of a hack I've used in the past to cache a sql database in a compressed ramdisk using zram and bcache. Imagine stuffing a 50G DB into 20G of memory.
It won't fix the inefficient SQL queries but it would make it so frequently accessed tables get cached in a ram disk cutting query time significantly.
This might be enough to reduce the impact of these attacks until queries can be optimized.
This assumes your database isn't running on something like RDS though.
This made me laugh. Configuration management systems like ansible, chef, salt, and puppet only exist because people wanted to manage a large numbers of systems and keep them consistent and replaceable, i.e treat them like cattle instead of pets. They were born out of the pets vs cattle analogy.
I realize containerization has taken that a step further but it's funny to hear someone talk about these tools like they're something archaic.
Life is hard, it's always been hard. Some of the problems we face today may be new but having to push forward and survive despite adversity is certainly not. Throwing in the towel and giving up because of the problems you face today and the problems you "might" face tomorrow is not the way to live.
You can overcome, you can save, you can improve your life and it can be worth living even if it feels absolutely impossible right now. People tell you this because it's true, because they've been through hard times, they've battled depression, and they've come out the other side with an appreciation and love for life despite it all.
I encourage you to seek support, there are many people out there who are currently going through and have gone through similar struggles. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get through this and can share you story with others one day.
Lose the defeatist attitude . You're only 31 years old. You've got over three decades to save for retirement and you don't need a degree to get places in life. Start saving now, even if it's a tiny amount. Just be consistent and increase contributions as you get raises or better opportunity. It adds up and having something is a lot better than having nothing. Don't give up before you get started.
The article says they are playing and not acting out of aggression. I don't think Orcas are hunted much anymore, at least just not in large numbers, and the boats being targeted are small fishing vessels not whaling boats.
LED's can be very particular about their dimmer. Unfortunately it's not enough just to go to the store and pick up a dimmer switch that claims compatability with LED's .
Fortunately most LED fixtures/bulbs come with a list of recommended dimmers, at least if you stick with larger brands and not cheap LED's from Amazon.
I know a few in my house require ELV dimmers and those sell to the tune of $50/ switch whereas others work fine with a $10 MLV.
Meanwhile my under cabinet lights explicity state not to use an ELV dimmer and to only use MLV or risk damaging the unit.
Are the posts set in cement? Is the house new construction where the ground may still be settling because it wasn't fully compacted?
People often skip cement footers for fence posts which might be okay if the soil is well compacted and the type of fence isn't sensitive to movement but the one place you should always use cement footers is around gates.
If you already have footers then my suggestion would be to set them deeper. It could be poorly compacted soil or the type of soil that's the problem in which case the only way to combat it is to dig down deeper so the footer reaches more stable soil.
There's really no need to replace the decking unless it's damage, regardless of it's age. It's would be an unnecessary expense, and a large one a that.
That vent pipe is PVC which tells me it's a lot newer than this house so my guess would be that whenever that vent was added or replaced they destroyed that board in the process. Regardless, the roofers should have corrected it. It's possible they just forgot to circle back to it if this was the only issue.
Now this is one of the features I want a button or knob for. Go ahead and bury all the advanced features in touchscreen menus but please don't do that for the basic things I regularly use while driving like temperature, fan, volume, and seek.
