  • Good talk bud.

  • Shout outs to all my homies in; l/ithinkbikesarenifty and all the losers in l/carssuck. I miss chatting will each and every one of you…

I think this is the new normal bud, at least here in America (god bless)… the Age of Enlightenment has passed. Find your corner and tune up your yelling voice.

Thing is, I don’t think anybody ever actually wants discussion or debate, we just all want to win our share of arguments. Sometimes with good open debate minds accidentally get changed, but that’s not what we show up for, more of a happy accident.

  • …NORAD will continue to track and monitor the balloon," NORAD said in a statement. "The FAA also determined the balloon posed no hazard to flight safety."

One U.S. official told CBS News the balloon was expected to be over Georgia by Friday night. The official said the balloon appeared to be made of Mylar and had a small cube-shaped box, about two feet long on each side, hanging below it. Its origins and purpose remain unknown.

Also the FAA: If you want to fly your DIY drone at a local park we’d really appreciate if you put a GPS transponder on it and register your name/address with us….

  • Ah… I see.

Well hopefully democracy doesn’t die in the shadows.

Perhaps we get 5-6 more folks after Thursday’s IPO announcement ;-)

  • Reddit now openly collects and sells user data.

With Sam Altman as shareholder #4 I think we got sold out long ago. The only real surprise is that Reddit got some compensation…

  • Definitely, I always ball mine up before tossing it so it’s a virtual certainty that man guys have handled my balls. I know it’s not everyone’s preference, they say you should just wash off the sheet, scrape off any large chunks and then lay it in the bin flat… I assume this is so they can easily tell if they are really just my balls or if someone might have hidden something like a half eaten burrito in one of their balls, which if I’m being honest, I have occasionally done but if that’s the case then I toss my balls in the trash can and not the recycling bin. I’m not some kind of monster! Nobody needs a load of rancid sour cream all over their hands just for trying to handle my balls.

It occurs to me that I really don’t know how many guys work in the recycling industry… it’s even possible the same guys have handled both our balls! Maybe there is someone with a weird fettish, and he takes a few balls home from work every day and his apartment is just full of other people’s balls… like, if you think about it —which I obviously do— there’s a non-zero possibility that our balls are touching right now and neither of us would ever really know.

Wow… that was a bit exhausting, I’m spent! I will be going to sleep soon and I will dream of balls all night long.

Good night friend. Hopefully I have answered your question.

  • To be honest, I kind of just pulled it out of my ass because the whole comment was a joke.

I don’t really know that much about Esperanto other then the notion that by creating a new language all mankind could be unified and peaceful. This seems hopelessly utopian to me, but also compelling and delightful… so it’s always bouncing around in the back of my mind.

  • DeepFriedMemes makes sense now!

  • Why Esperanto? Or the whole comment?

  • You mean that’s not the homeless guy?

I too believe the youths are destroying our glorious language… look at the stately meme, reduced to this confusing image. We must start over with Esperanto!

  • Congratulations Lemmy we are now statistically significant 🥹

  • “A Democratic consultant who worked for a rival presidential campaign paid a New Orleans magician to use artificial intelligence to impersonate President Joe Biden for a robocall that is now at the center of a multistate law enforcement investigation, according to text messages,” NBC News reports.

Use your links people… I don’t want to search all of NBC for this magical man ;-) And it’s New Orleans, was “computer, voodoo practitioner“ really off the table?

“Paul Carpenter says he was hired in January by Steve Kramer — who has worked on ballot access for Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips — to use AI software to make an imitation of Biden’s voice urging New Hampshire Democrats not to vote in the state’s presidential primary.”

So I now get that Paul Carpenter is the wizard, but the point of these political machinations completely escapes me.

  • Right? I’m not sure if that was an article or an aneurysm.

  • Oh okay, that’s pretty cool. I don’t think Techtinium can do per-device settings at all, and (obviously) only works on my home WiFi. And the bulk of the DNS requests are just passed to cloudflare, so it’s better than using my ISP, but only by a bit.

  • Weird. Got to be some financial motivation then. I’m going to research it more now that I know it’s a stock option in some markets… Thanks :-)

  • Word :-)

I actually have, but even with the device rooted and buttonmappers special ADB command run somehow, and only sometimes, Netflix creeps into the task switcher.

The button reliably launches Plex every time, so as far as I’m concerned it works just fine.

Someone suggested uninstalling the Netflix app and I’m sure that would sort out the last bit of it. But I was actually still using Netflix :-)

  • I’ll second that in a heartbeat. It’s not just the obvious stuff either, much of the inobvious refinement is just gone. I hated Apple for years because their UIs were offensive and the thought of a single mouse button seemed convicted for the feeble minded… but I came to really appreciate the small refinement, common actions requiring minimum input. It’s hard to be specific without getting to esoteric, but the primary input field always having focus is the one that on my mind constantly.

For example I navigate somewhere with maps, hit end navigation, it’s now 3 clicks to get back to a search field and type the next destination… not a lot of work, but that’s coming from 0 clicks.

I would happily go on, but I sound like a cranky graybeard already and we’re supposed to be finding you a decent phone ;-)

  • I’ll give it a look. I generally just use Firefox and uBlock when I have a choice.

I’m running Techtinium right now for DNS privacy, any killer features in NextDNS that made you pick it?
