If they could surveil the device to see the PIN being entered then no app would protect them.

My Signal only asks for a PIN about once per month so that would be a lot of screen surveillance hours to sit through in order to catch that moment.

More likely is that it was fixed since the breach but I cannot find release notes (hard to search on my phone).

SimpleX is decentralized, requires no phone number, based on Signal code. Screws up invitations via FB/Messenger though.

Regarding the trick of an adversary gaining access by emailing or SMS'ing a QR code for adding another device...

Thanks. I opted out of MyHealthRecord before it kicked in. This vindicates me: the justification for them is to streamline services but, from what you told me, they are not even doing that (in this instance).

In Australia the politicians get token board positions, upon retirement, at the corporations whom they legislate in favour of.

It requires trust: the corporation has to have a reputation in following through with these very indirect bribes years after the favor was done.

Even if Renewables corps wanted to play the same game, they could not compete with oil and coal corps because they don't have the connections, the scale for lucrative board positions or the reputation as "honest" crooks.

FWIW I subscribe to an (Australian) online newspaper which is free just like you do. The difference being that I rarely read it since I am on top of those topics largely. Am just glad that it exists for others because it is well researched and presented.

BC means Before Christ. Since Jesus Christ obviously was not born 4 years before he was born, are you saying his real birthdate was found to be different from what it was initially thought to be but it was too late to change the numbering system?

On July 1, 2024, Roberts wrote the majority opinion in Trump v. United States, writing that a president has absolute immunity for acts committed as president within their constitutional purview, presumptive immunity for official acts, and no immunity for unofficial acts.

He is also the same guy picked up on hot mic a few weeks ago when Trump thanked him for the above. Roberts responded "that's OK".

That he is pushing back is significant. Roberts and his SCOTUS buddies will become irrelevant if Trump ignores them.

It is really precarious and scary but it has not happened yet.

But eventually Trump is bound to push the envelope and disobey the courts in a clear-cut way. It is not looking hopeful for Democracy in USA.

Ars offers free articles while most publications have a paywall, so I imagine funding isn't as generous as it would have been 30 years ago when such publications would have been in magazine format.
